Job Description

The Distribution Engineer – Technical Trainer designs, delivers, and continuously improves technical training programs that strengthen the capabilities of distribution engineers. This role focuses on GPC distribution standards, distribution system design, and regulatory compliance, while mentoring and coaching engineers to enhance their technical performance. The position combines hands-on experience in power distribution engineering with a strong ability to translate complex concepts into practical, easy-to-understand training content. By developing and leading engaging training sessions, maintaining high-quality curriculum and materials, and reinforcing safety and quality standards, this role ensures a skilled, consistent, and high-performing engineering workforce aligned with company and industry requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive technical training curriculum and materials focused on GPC distribution engineering standards and practices.
  • Design and deliver engaging training programs on distribution system design, including load flow, voltage drop, and network optimization.
  • Facilitate interactive classroom and field-based training sessions that translate complex electrical engineering concepts into practical, real-world applications.
  • Mentor and coach distribution engineers to strengthen their technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and overall performance.
  • Ensure training content reflects current distribution design standards, power delivery practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Reinforce safety, quality, and documentation best practices across all training activities and materials.
  • Assess training effectiveness through feedback, evaluations, and performance outcomes, and implement improvements based on findings and evolving organizational needs.
  • Support the development and implementation of project and documentation standards within the distribution engineering function.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations stakeholders to align training content with organizational goals, field practices, and industry trends.
  • Travel locally to various locations to deliver on-site training and support engineers in applying standards and design principles in the field.
  • Report to the office when not traveling to prepare materials, conduct training sessions, and collaborate with colleagues on program enhancements.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.
  • 5–10 years of distribution engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience in power distribution, including distribution design, distribution lines, and power delivery systems.
  • Prior experience in training, mentoring, or coaching engineers in a technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, including load flow, voltage drop, and network optimization.
  • Deep familiarity with distribution design standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in applying electrical engineering principles to the design and management of distribution systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong facilitation skills and comfort leading interactive, discussion-based, and practical training sessions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience specifically with GPC distribution engineering, including standards and design practices, is preferred for success in this traveling training role.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop structured training materials, guides, and documentation that support consistent engineering practices.
  • Proven capability to coach and influence engineers at different experience levels in a constructive and supportive manner.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to balance curriculum development, training delivery, and travel commitments.
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and act on feedback to continuously improve training content and delivery methods.
  • Comfort working both independently and collaboratively with engineering and operations teams.
