Core Responsibilities
  1. Banner Database Administration
    • Administer and maintain Oracle databases supporting Ellucian Banner ERP modules (Student, Finance, HR/Payroll, Financial Aid)
    • Perform Banner version upgrades, cumulative patches and regulatory updates
    • Manage Banner‑related database objects, schemas and packages
    • Support Banner job submission processes (GJAPCTL, Job Submission architecture)
    • Troubleshoot Banner performance issues related to forms, jobs and batch processing
    • Manage Banner environment cloning and refresh activities
    • Coordinate with functional teams during Banner upgrades and testing cycles
    • Monitor and tune Banner‑related SQL workloads
  2. Oracle Database Administration
    • Install, configure and maintain Oracle 12c / 19c databases
    • Perform database patching (PSU/CPU), upgrades and migrations
    • Manage RMAN backup and recovery strategy, including full, incremental and archivelog backups
    • Implement and support Oracle Data Guard (physical standby preferred)
    • Monitor performance using AWR, ASH and ADDM reports
    • Perform SQL tuning and index optimization
    • Manage tablespaces, datafiles, redo logs and archive log configurations
    • Support database replication and high‑availability configurations
    • Manage database encryption and security hardening
  3. Environment & Infrastructure Management
    • Manage multi‑tier environments (Dev, Test, UAT, Prod)
    • Perform database cloning using RMAN and hot/cold backup methods
    • Work closely with system administrators on Linux/Unix servers
    • Coordinate storage allocation and performance tuning with infrastructure teams
    • Support capacity planning and database growth forecasting
    • Assist in migration projects (on‑prem to cloud or data center transitions)
  4. Performance & Optimization
    • Identify and resolve locking, blocking and long‑running queries
    • Tune Banner batch jobs and heavy transactional workloads
    • Optimize database parameters (SGA, PGA, memory structures)
    • Review execution plans and optimize poorly performing SQL
    • Conduct proactive health checks
  5. Security & Compliance
    • Manage database users, roles and privileges
    • Implement password policies and access controls
    • Support database auditing and compliance reporting
    • Perform regular vulnerability assessments and remediation
    • Ensure secure handling of sensitive student and financial data
  6. Incident & Change Management
    • Provide L2/L3 production support
    • Conduct root‑cause analysis for critical database incidents
    • Participate in change management processes
    • Maintain detailed documentation for upgrades, patches and DR procedures
    • Support 24x7 on‑call rotation if required
