Position Overview

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

Serves as the network technical leader supporting enterprise network solution design and implementation. Implements technical projects and modifications to support continued business computing and network operations. Develops and oversees project plans, including implementation timeframes, resource estimates, cost estimates and cost/benefit analyses. The IT Network Engineer Lead should be a well-rounded and experienced networking professional with strong knowledge of enterprise network technologies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Associate's degree with required experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: Seven years of experience working with enterprise network technologies required in lieu of Bachelor's degree.

Other Credentials:

Knowledge and Skills: Excellent IT problem solving skills, strong communication, project implementation, and leadership skills. Experience in enterprise LAN/WAN, routing and switching, wireless networking, VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, network security, firewalls, network monitoring, SD-WAN, QoS and network troubleshooting preferred.

Special Training: Previous experience with enterprise routing and switching, wireless technologies, firewalls, VPNs, SD-WAN, network monitoring, and management tools. Experience with Cisco networking technologies and enterprise network design. Cisco certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are a plus. Previous experience overseeing, implementing and managing network hardware and connectivity in a large heterogeneous, multi-site network environment.

Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Strong teamwork abilities. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time. Can effectively interact with staff and system vendors on a regular basis. Experience with IT projects from inception to completion, working independently or with a larger team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supports enterprise network design and implementation. Exhibits ability to resolve network problems effectively and efficiently. Ensures minimal disruptions and downtime of network services. Utilizes technical knowledge and experience to effectively and efficiently analyze issues, diagnose problems and determine resolutions.

  • Conducts installation, integration, configuration and initial operation of enterprise network hardware and technologies to support business unit goals. Ensures new hardware and/or software is installed, pre-configured and tested in test environments and pilot locations prior to a formal rollout in a production environment. Understands and adheres to project implementation and problem resolution priorities set by IT management.

  • Implements technical modifications and creates related documentation to support continued network operations. Provides thorough analysis, timely resolution and follow-up to problem issues, assigned tasks and requests for project-related technical specifications.

  • Resolves IT network-related problems effectively and efficiently. Ensures minimal disruptions and downtime of network services. Utilizes technical knowledge and experience to analyze issues, diagnose problems and determine resolutions.

  • Assists in the design, testing, deployment, maintenance and support of network systems throughout the organization's integrated, multi-facility health system. Assists in the identification, evaluation and testing of potential new network hardware, software, tools and technologies. Makes recommendations for purchase and ensures new network hardware and technologies are adequate for projected growth.

  • Conducts preventive maintenance of current network systems and makes recommendations on further optimizing maintenance procedures. Evaluates network systems for signs of compromise, vulnerabilities and performance issues and takes appropriate actions based on industry best practices. Leads and participates in new site set-ups, department/office/building moves, network upgrades and hardware replacements.

  • Configures, maintains and troubleshoots enterprise routing, switching, wireless, VLANs, WAN connectivity, SD-WAN, VPN, firewalls, network access and related technologies. Assists with maintaining network availability, redundancy, performance and resiliency across enterprise locations.

  • Monitors network performance and availability using enterprise network management and monitoring tools. Identifies capacity, performance and connectivity issues and recommends improvements to maintain reliable network operations.

  • Accommodates project schedules and answers and resolves support issues when needed.

  • Participates as an active, contributing member of project teams. Ensures tasks and projects are completed in a successful and timely manner. Develops and maintains proficient use of project management software tools.

  • Documents all problem-solving measures that properly allow for other team members to resolve recurring problems effectively and efficiently. Escalates problems in a timely manner to the Manager, on-call/management staff, telecommunications carriers and vendors as necessary.

  • Communicates effectively and follows up in a positive, meaningful manner on the status of problems and projects. Participates in regular staff meetings and other assigned team/project meetings. Interacts in a confidential, courteous, constructive, and appropriate manner. Adheres to Capital Health behavior and other related performance standards.

  • Performs administrative responsibilities necessary to comply with organizational and departmental policies, procedures and standards. Assists with developing documentation necessary for all planned network implementations and upgrades, including detailed technical specifications, network diagrams, work plans, test plans, implementation and downtime schedules, and back out/recovery plans.

  • Assists in the training and mentoring of existing and new employees, including developing training materials and conducting training sessions.

  • Provides insight to help Network Engineers resolve complex problems. Helps Network Engineers with concepts relating to new network technologies, systems or upgrades. Provides technical knowledge and mentorship to Network Engineers.

  • Documents policies, procedures, standards and methodologies necessary for the proper use and maintenance of network hardware, software, configurations and protocols. Maintains accurate network diagrams and technical documentation. Ensures all work, including design, configuration, upgrades and repairs, is done in compliance with licensing requirements, legal requirements and industry standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
