Job description

MERN Stack Developer

Location: Chicago, IL — Hybrid, 3 days onsite
Duration: 12+ months with possible extension
Employment: W2 Contract
Interview: In-person
Pay: $40–$42/hour W2

We are seeking an experienced MERN Stack Developer / Software Developer for a long-term hybrid opportunity in Chicago. Candidates must currently be within commuting distance of Chicago and able to work onsite three days per week.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, code, test and debug applications using the MERN stack and SQL.
• Develop and maintain applications using MongoDB, Express.js, React.js and Node.js.
• Write complex SQL queries and support database design.
• Identify and resolve coding and application-performance issues.
• Manage source code using Git, including branching, merging and pull requests.
• Deploy and maintain applications using AWS services including EC2, S3, Lambda and RDS.
• Follow software-development best practices for code quality, testing, debugging, documentation and security.
• Provide technical support and collaborate with developers and internal teams.
• Mentor team members and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices.

Required Qualifications

• 6–10 years of professional full-stack development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with MongoDB, Express.js, React.js and Node.js.
• Strong SQL development and database-design experience.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Practical AWS experience, including EC2, S3, Lambda and RDS.
• Strong testing, debugging, documentation and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills.

Preferred

• Docker and Kubernetes.
• CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
• TypeScript and other modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools.
