Job description

As the Software Engineer at Jaia Robotics, you will help shape the intelligence that drives our fleet of autonomous marine vehicles. This role combines algorithm development, mission autonomy, communication middleware, and operator tooling to deliver robust performance from lake trials to open ocean deployments. You will collaborate with a passionate and highly capable engineering team that values initiative, curiosity, and practical problem solving. Primary Role
  • Autonomy Development: Contribute to the behaviors and mission logic that guideJaiaBotsthrough sensing, navigation, and decision making.
  • Fleet Communication: Build and enhance distributed communication using Goby3, DCCL, and ourmulti-linknetworking architecture.
  • System Reliability: Improve the robustness, efficiency, and safety of theJaiaBotsoftware stack acrossreal-timeoperations.
  • Tools and Visualization: Expand capabilities in our user interface tools (JCC and JDV) for mission planning, fleet coordination, and post mission analysis.
  • Documentation and Collaboration: Write clear code,maintainsolid documentation, and communicate effectively to support efficient teamwork and future growth.
Role Responsibilities
  • Meaningfully contribute to software design, implementation, testing, and integration across applications and platforms.
  • Help build,maintain, andoptimizeautonomy logic built on MOOSIvPincluding custom state machines and navigation behaviors.
  • Develop andmaintaincommunicationdrivers and message definitions.
  • Work with operators and testers to rapidly diagnose and resolve issues during field missions.
  • Review log data, performance metrics, and mission results to inform iterative development.
  • Contribute to C++, Python, and TypeScript codebases with clean structure and maintainability.
  • Travel for test and customer support / demo operations will be occasionally required.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Postgraduate or undergraduate degree in engineering, or related field with experience in blue tech, preferably in uncrewed underwater vehicles, drones, robotics, or similar hardware products.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Recognized leadership skills that inspire teams and individuals to do their best work.
  • Familiarity with robotics concepts such as autonomy, navigation, networking, and sensor integration
  • Being an effective communicator at all levels within Jaia and our customer, partner, vendor, and collaborator organizations will be an essential skill.
  • Proven track record in driving operational efficiency, scalability, and innovation.
