The role of the Software Engineer Intern (Java) is to work with other application/platform developers and implement business requirements into concrete solutions. Armed with the latest AI knowledge, your mandate will be to maximize the AI adoption in our current development environment to accelerate our software development velocity.

This role reports to: Manager, Application Development

This role is hybrid (2-3 days/week in the office) - based in Toronto, ON.

Key Accountabilities:

  • You will develop Software solutions that fits within the guidelines set forth by Security, Architecture and Solution Leads.

  • You will expand the current AI usage through the integration of IDE, IntelliJ, Red Hat CodeReady or Visual Studio Code.

  • You will create documentation and test scripts supporting the development work.

  • You will provide documentations to the DevOps team to successfully deploy changes to the Production environment.

  • You will support business as usual activities (BAU) with Application support and Customer Operations team including but not limited to resolving production defects, performance issues and system outages.

Must Have(s):

  • University degree or college diploma in computer science or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Experience in Java application development (JDK 8 and JDK 11) with expertise in jBoss servers.

  • Experience working with Spring framework and Spring Boot

  • Experience with Claude, Copilot and Amazon bedrock.

  • Experience in containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and deployment on platforms like OpenShift, Kubernetes or AWS ECS/EK

  • Experience in Agile Software Development Lifecycle, building software the Agile way from design, development, testing, deployment, to production release;

  • Java Skill Set: Core Java, Multi-Threading, Collections, JDBC, Maven, Ant

  • RDBMS Experience with exposure to writing T-SQL, Stored Procedures and jobs, specifically in Oracle, MS-SQL and DB2.

  • Experience working in both Linux and MS Windows host environments

  • Experience with source control software Git, BitBucket

Nice to Have(s):

  • Experience in applications written in Python, Javascripts, React and Node.js

  • Understanding of modern software development practices, including microservices architecture and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Background in project management tools like JIRA or DevOps

  • 12 month Co-op / Internship: September 8, 2026 - September 10, 2027

Salary Range: 25/hour-28/hour CAD
