Headquartered in Chicago with offices across the United States and Europe, Gelber has set the bar as one of the industry's innovative and enduring proprietary trading firms for more than 40 years. Our collaborative and entrepreneurial culture empowers each member of our team to have a meaningful impact from the start. We pride ourselves on a flat organizational structure and focus on meritocracy. If you flourish in a fast-paced environment, have a strong work ethic, and enjoy solving real problems with real users, Gelber is right for you.

This internship will last 10–12 weeks and is flexible on start date. We are considering candidates graduating between December 2026 and August 2027, or recent graduates. This position requires in-person presence in our Chicago office located in River West, adjacent to the Merchandise Mart and convenient to public transportation.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to participate in a summer program focused on designing and building a Custom Reporting Framework within our Backoffice system.

This project centers on developing a web-based interface that enables non-technical stakeholders to generate flexible financial statements without requiring custom engineering support. The goal is to provide a scalable, in-house reporting solution that improves usability, efficiency, and long-term maintainability.

We will provide the business context and technical guidance needed to succeed, while giving you meaningful ownership over a production-facing system used by Accounting and Settlement teams.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build a web-based UI for generating custom financial reports
  • Enable users to pull from flexible data sources, including trades, positions, pricing, and fees
  • Implement filtering, sorting, grouping, and transformation capabilities within reports
  • Allow users to save report configurations for future use, with potential scheduling capabilities
  • Partner directly with Accounting and Settlement stakeholders to gather requirements and validate outputs
  • Deliver a production-ready component integrated into our Backoffice infrastructure
  • Produce clear technical and user documentation and present your results at the end of the internship

Goals

  • Deliver a valuable internal tool used by Backoffice stakeholders
  • Reduce the burden of ad hoc report generation on the development team
  • Provide a controlled, customizable in-house reporting solution
  • Build strong habits around stakeholder collaboration, iterative development, and documentation
  • Gain exposure to financial systems, reporting workflows, and operational infrastructure in a trading environment

Qualifications

  • Progress toward a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or related field (Junior standing or higher preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in an existing codebase
  • Familiarity with web fundamentals (HTTP methods, client-server architecture, HTML/CSS)
  • At least 1 year of experience using C# and/or Java
  • Exposure to TypeScript and React is beneficial
  • Curiosity, self-motivation, and strong communication skills—especially when working with non-technical stakeholders
  • Interest in financial markets is helpful, but not required

The approximate hourly rate for this position in Chicago, IL is $25/hr. This is a temporary role and is not eligible for employee benefits.

Why Intern at Gelber?

  • Brand new office in the heart of Chicago's River North neighborhood, attached to the Merchandise Mart and "EL" stop and a short walk from both Ogilvie and Union Train Stations
  • Comprehensive 10-week program, running from June to August 2026
  • Catered lunch provided Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursdays and stocked pantry daily
  • Social events and work/life balance that will allow you time to enjoy the Chicago summer
  • Office amenities including a golf simulator, pool table, and company paid on-site gym
  • Casual, relaxed dress code
  • Comprehensive benefits package available for full-time employees
