Job description

Mission
The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County (DAP) works to prevent domestic violence and empower victims to move towards self-sufficiency.
Purpose
The Outreach amp; Education Intern will assist in providing awareness amp; development programming in targeted areas.
Internship
Classification: Full Time - Unpaid (Eligible for academic credit)
Educational Requirement: Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Women amp; Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Social Work, Public Health or related field
Essential Duties
  • Strict adherence to the DAP confidentiality policies amp; procedures, complete the required 45+ hour domestic violence and mandated reporter trainings.
  • Provide DAP representation at community meetings and awareness events, including health fairs.
  • Coordinate referrals to DAP services and other community resources.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and supportive counseling as needed within the community.
  • Adhere to best practices and empowerment-based approaches to supporting survivors.
  • Maintain records of all interventions.
  • Assist with awareness campaigns.
  • Support with social media content to focus on education.
  • Assist with law enforcement training as needed.
  • Manage outreach schedule.
  • Work with assigned CCRT to represent agency at scheduled events such as Take Back the Night
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan, implement and proven ability to multitask in an everchanging environment.
  • Understands and recognizes this role involves exposure to difficult emotional situations.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all activities at DAP, pertaining to both clients and staff, demonstrating consistent honesty and professionalism at all times.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Platform including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

  • Professional demeanor and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening
  • Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect
  • Ability to work well independently, setting high standards of performance for self and assuming responsibility and accountability for successful completion of assignments or tasks
  • Ability to work well with others, promoting commitment within the team to achieve goals and objectives
  • Maintain confidentiality and earn through and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions
  • Willingness to learn the dynamics of domestic violence, understanding of the social service system, and crisis intervention skills
Work Environment:
  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting with some traveling required to outreach events.
Other Requirements
  • Successful completion of required organizational training
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Check and other organizationally required clearances
  • Must possess valid drivers' license and reliable transportation
