Role Description: We are seeking a Software Engineer II to join a new team building the next generation of back-end services, APIs and integrations in the finance tech organization. Initially this role will focus on the systems that move financial data between external platforms and our enterprise contracting system, integrating with existing APIs, message queues and SQL databases. You will help build configurable, reusable services that can be extended to new sources, systems and acquisitions through configuration rather than one-off, hard-coded integrations. You will also help standardize how data moves across our billing systems to allow for greater visibility into patterns, errors and optimizations across a payments flow of billions of dollars a year. This position is in Richmond, VA and has a work schedule of Monday through Thursday in office and Friday work from home. Responsibilities: Contribute to technical discussions and architectural decisions aligned with business goals Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable back-end applications and APIs using the Microsoft .NET technology stack, SQL and other data tools Champion maintainable, well-tested code and sound design: clear separation of concerns, loose coupling, and consistent use of established design patterns Collaborate with engineering, product, DevOps and DBA teams to deliver production systems and participate in code reviews Work from requirements through delivery, partnering with senior engineers and business stakeholders to turn business context into technical designs and development-ready specifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person college/university Track Record of committment to prior employers 3+ years of professional experience in software development using strongly typed languages for server-side processing, such as C#, GoLang, Java or Node with TypeScript Strong experience with relational databases, including database design and performance optimization Experience building scalable APIs and system integrations across REST APIs, message brokers or event streams Experience building configurable, reusable frameworks that support multiple integrations or business processes rather than hard-coded, single-purpose implementations Strong understanding of CI/CD principles, infrastructure as code, automated deployment pipelines, and source control systems Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and excellent communication skills Experience with agentic engineering and AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate software delivery Preferred Qualifications: Exposure to serverless computing and event-driven architecture, including but not limited to RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka, or Azure Service Bus Familiarity with microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP Familiarity with observability tools like Kibana, Datadog and other monitoring frameworks Experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, including relevance and index tuning to power fast, accurate search across contract, billing and reference data Databricks, Python or other ETL processing experience Payments or financial systems experience a plus Demonstrated ability to apply AI copilots or agentic workflows for code generation, code review, and root-cause analysis What's in it for you?
