CGI is seeking an experienced Insurance Rating Engineer (Ratabase) to join our team in Knoxville, TN. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining insurance rating solutions that support accurate, compliant, and high-performance premium calculations across multiple insurance products and jurisdictions. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in insurance rating engines such as Ratabase (or equivalent), strong Java backend development experience, and a passion for delivering scalable enterprise solutions.
Working closely with actuarial, product, and engineering teams, you will translate complex insurance pricing requirements into robust technical solutions while leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality. This position must be performed from Knoxville, Tennessee.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain insurance rating logic, rating tables, worksheets, and rules using Ratabase or a comparable rating engine
Implement and support complex pricing algorithms that generate accurate and compliant insurance premiums
Collaborate with actuarial and business stakeholders to implement rate changes, product enhancements, and regulatory filings
Manage rating table versioning, effective dating, and product- and state-specific configurations
Utilize AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Gemini Code Assist, or Cloud AI to accelerate development, refactoring, documentation, and code quality
Optimize AI-assisted development workflows and monitor team productivity improvements through responsible AI adoption
Serve as a technical leader by conducting architecture reviews, solution walkthroughs, and code reviews that promote scalability, maintainability, and engineering excellence
Develop enterprise integrations and backend services using Java, RESTEasy, SOAP, XML, JSON, and industry-standard integration patterns
Troubleshoot and optimize application performance through JVM tuning, profiling, thread optimization, caching strategies, and performance analysis
Support end-to-end solution delivery, including CI/CD automation, testing, deployment, production support, and ongoing application enhancements
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
7+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend Java development expertise
3+ years of hands-on experience developing insurance rating solutions using Ratabase or a comparable insurance rating engine
Demonstrated experience writing, configuring, and maintaining insurance rating rules, pricing algorithms, and rating tables
Experience supporting policy lifecycle, underwriting, and insurance product implementations
Strong proficiency developing REST APIs using Java and RESTEasy
Experience working with SOAP services, XML, XSD schemas, JSON, and enterprise service integrations
Strong knowledge of Java application performance tuning, troubleshooting, and JVM optimization
Experience working across on-premises and cloud environments such as AWS or Microsoft Azure
Experience using Git, Maven or Gradle, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks
Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including SQL Server or PostgreSQL
Desired qualifications
Experience implementing AI-assisted software development workflows using GitHub Copilot, Gemini Code Assist, or similar tools
AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud developer certification
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized application platforms
Experience implementing caching technologies such as Redis or Amazon ElastiCache
Knowledge of Python, R, or other data-focused programming languages
Experience with API management platforms such as Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, or Azure API Management
Familiarity with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, Kafka, JMS, or RabbitMQ
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $80,600.00 $172,400.00.
