In Vivo Intern


About the Opportunity:


Meadowhawk Biolabs is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to join our In Vivo Services Group as paid In Vivo Intern at our Hayward, CA location. We are a Contract Research Organization (CRO) founded by an experienced team of industry veterans over 4 years ago.


This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to gain foundational animal care and laboratory experience and exposure to the life sciences industry within a fast-paced, collaborative CRO environment. The ideal candidate is curious, dependable, and eager to learn while contributing to day-to-day laboratory operations.


We are considering candidates available for:


Full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer (and during school breaks if possible) 

Part-time (10-20 hours/week) during the fall and spring semesters

Scheduling flexibility is available within reasonable operational needs. 


Key Roles and Responsibilities:


Under close supervision and in compliance with established procedures and safety requirements, the intern will support the In Vivo Services group activities including, but not limited to:

Small animal handling in the form of: assisting with feeding, monitoring, cleaning or prepping animal cages 

Receipt, storage, distribution, and inventory management of vivarium and laboratory consumables

Assist in preparation of in vivo experiments and sample collection: labeling, weighing and organizing collection tubes 

Collection and storage of biological and chemical waste in accordance with safety guidelines 

Maintaining organization and cleanliness of laboratory and vivarium operational areas equipment and general housekeeping tasks

Performing other clearly defined duties as assigned. 

Training will be provided for all assigned tasks. 


Minimum Education and Qualifications:


High school diploma or equivalent

Currently pursuing a post-secondary degree in a scientific discipline

No prior laboratory or animal experience required; prior experience is a plus.

Be able to lift heavy objects around 30-40 lbs 

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in place of the criteria listed above. 


Skills: 


Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment

Capable of managing time effectively and handling multiple tasks

Clear written and verbal communication skills

Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Compensation: 


The target base hourly rate for this position is $18 per hour. The specific rate for this position may vary and will be based upon factors including, but not limited to, the individual's experience, education, and skills.
