About The Position

Ameren Illinois is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Crisis Management Information & Technology Intern to support the Crisis Management team in enhancing situational awareness, operational readiness, emergency preparedness, and information management initiatives.

This internship provides hands-on experience working with crisis management systems, operational information, historical event records, SharePoint, Microsoft 365 applications, dashboards, and emerging technologies used to support incident response, business continuity, restoration efforts, and Incident Management Team (IMT) operations.

The intern will assist with organizing and maintaining historical crisis management data, supporting dashboard enhancements, improving information accessibility, and contributing to the continuous development of the Ameren Illinois Crisis Management Dashboard and Athena AI platform. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to utility operations, emergency management, business continuity, and technology solutions that support operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, organizing, validating, and maintaining crisis management information from internal and external sources.
  • Research and compile historical storm, outage, weather, restoration, and emergency response records for use in dashboards and situational awareness tools.
  • Support the migration and organization of historical information into SharePoint, dashboards, and approved information repositories.
  • Assist with maintaining and enhancing the Ameren Illinois Crisis Management Dashboard and Athena AI platform.
  • Help develop and update reports, dashboards, resource libraries, and situational awareness products.
  • Maintain SharePoint lists, document libraries, Microsoft 365 applications, and approved information management systems.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of reference materials, standard operating procedures, workflows, and documentation.
  • Assist with monitoring operational information and preparing materials used during Incident Management Team (IMT) activations and emergency events.
  • Support after-action reviews, lessons learned initiatives, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across operations, emergency preparedness, business continuity, and communications functions.
  • Ensure information accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in accordance with company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university in:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, Power BI, Microsoft 365, Power Automate, or similar business productivity tools.
  • Familiarity with information management, reporting, dashboard development, document management, or workflow automation.
  • Interest in crisis management, emergency preparedness, business continuity, utility operations, incident management, or emerging technologies.
  • Previous coursework, projects, internships, or leadership experience involving process improvement, research, information management, or operational support.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, or collaborative technology platforms is a plus.

Additional Information

This is a full-time summer internship opportunity (40 hours per week) designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience in crisis management, emergency preparedness, information management, and utility operations.

Preferred work locations include Peoria, Springfield, Pawnee, and other locations within Central Illinois. Hybrid work arrangements may be available based on business needs.

Throughout the internship, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain real-world experience supporting crisis management, emergency preparedness, and utility operations.
  • Work alongside crisis management, business continuity, emergency response, and operational professionals.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining historical records, operational data, and situational awareness information.
  • Learn how information management supports storm response, incident management, restoration activities, and operational decision-making.
  • Gain experience with SharePoint, Microsoft 365 applications, dashboards, workflow automation, and emerging technologies.
  • Support the development and enhancement of the Ameren Illinois Crisis Management Dashboard and Athena AI platform.
  • Contribute to projects that improve operational readiness, resilience, and continuous improvement across Ameren Illinois.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to experience the intersection of crisis management, emergency preparedness, information technology, and critical infrastructure operations while building skills that can support future careers in emergency management, business operations, information systems, utility operations, or related fields.

We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the salary offered.
