Location: Office located in Waltham. Services can be provided either in the Waltham/Metro Boston/Middlesex region or in the Medford/Malden/Northeast region.
Description of Program: Wayside's Waltham Community Based Services Site is accepting Graduate Level interns. We provide a range of in-home, community-based services designed to protect, preserve, and reunify families within a wide geographical area. Community-based clinicians provide individual, couples and family therapy. Treatment is generally intensive in nature and delivered using a strengths-based, resiliency-focused philosophy. Clinicians work with clients referred from the Department of Children and Families, the Department of Mental Health and a variety of insurance companies to address such issues as mental health symptom management, family systems dynamics, behavior management, substance abuse, budgeting, household management, parent education and more.
Clinicians provide comprehensive assessments and goal formulation, therapeutic intervention, case management, advocacy and concrete services such as transportation to appointments, assistance with accessing services, and referrals. Interns are fully integrated into the team and will participate in agency-wide initiatives such as Motivational Interviewing, ARC, and Courageous Conversations. This is an excellent internship for confident self-starters who will receive ample support from a strong clinical team and will also function autonomously in the community.
Clinical and/or academic exposure to family work is recommended. Flexibility is required. Final year graduate students preferred, though will consider strong first year students with relevant experience.
Final year interns may have the opportunity to carry one or two outpatient cases at the Waltham site. Opportunities include co-facilitating Department of Mental Health activity-based groups for youth.

Language Skills: Not required, increased stipend for Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole and Mandarin speaking interns.
Stipends: $5,000.00/year for final year MA students with an additional $1,000.00 for language differential.
Preferred Mandatory Schedule: Three days a week, one of which must be Tuesdays. Availability to see families during evening hours at least two nights a week, Minimum of 24 hours per week for final-year interns, Minimum of 20 hours per week for first-year interns. Attending 5 days of preservice.
Internship Requirements: Valid driver's license, reliable car and permission from school to transport clients.
