Job description

Overview

Help power mission-critical systems through enterprise data. As a Technical Consultant, Enterprise Data Engineer, you will design and implement scalable geospatial data platforms that support Defense and Intelligence operations.

You will work directly with customers to architect data solutions that integrate, manage, and optimize complex datasets across secure environments. From database design and performance tuning to high availability and data security, your work will ensure that critical geospatial information is delivered reliably to the people who depend on it most.

This role combines enterprise data engineering, geospatial technology, and mission impact, giving you the opportunity to solve complex data challenges in environments where performance, scale, and reliability are essential. 

Esri has a Relocation Assistance Program and can provide support with relocating to the St. Louis, MO area for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure database solutions to support mission-critical applications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams during all phases of implementation including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deployment
  • Configure and maintain database environments, including backup, restore, high-availability, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Monitor and tune database performance using industry-standard tools and methodologies (such as query optimization, indexing strategies)
  • Implement data security measures, access controls, and compliance standards across environments
  • Automate routine database loading, maintenance, and monitoring tasks to improve efficiency
  • Provide technical guidance and best practices for database design, migration, and integration projects

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in database design, administration, and optimization for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANA
  • Familiarity with database design principles, data loading techniques, backup and recovery solutions, performance monitoring and tuning, database maintenance, and security
  • Scripting skills in SQL and Python for automation and data workflows
  • Exposure to geospatial concepts such as spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and non-technical project managers or customers
  • US citizenship with Active or Current (within 2 years of active) Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or related STEM field

Recommended Qualifications

  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise geodatabases
  • Knowledge of integrating GIS with other enterprise systems
  • CompTIA Security + certification
  • One or more industry-standard IT certifications (such as Esri, Microsoft, Amazon, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
  • Master`s degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or related STEM field
