Job description

We made history and now we work to transform the future - for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.

Enterprise Technology plays a critical part in shaping the future of mobility. If you're looking for the chance to leverage advanced technology to redefine the transportation landscape, enhance the customer experience and improve people's lives, this is the opportunity for you. Join us and challenge your IT expertise and analytical skills to help create vehicles that are as smart as you are.

In this position...

We are seeking a Full-Stack Platform Software Engineer who is a hands-on builder and curious, fast-moving problem solver. You will be a key contributor on a focused team within Ford's Enterprise Data Platform organization, designing and developing production-grade applications, services, and user experiences that make trusted data accessible across the enterprise.

In this role, you will build across the stack: creating intuitive UI/UX experiences for data access and exploration while also developing the APIs, microservices, data pipelines, and cloud services that power them. You will work closely with engineers, architects, product owners, and data partners to turn complex requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable platform capabilities.

You will own features from design through production deployment, applying modern engineering practices to deliver reliable cloud-native software on Google Cloud Platform. You will also use modern AI-enabled development practices to accelerate delivery, improve software quality, and solve complex engineering challenges. You will apply sound judgment when using AI tools, balancing speed with security, maintainability, testing, and responsible engineering standards.

If you enjoy diving into challenging problems, learning new tools when the work calls for them, and seeing your contributions create meaningful real-world impact, this is an opportunity to help shape the future of mobility at Ford.

What you'll do...

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain full-stack platform capabilities, including intuitive user experiences, RESTful APIs, microservices, and data pipelines.
  • Develop polished, accessible UI/UX experiences that enable secure data access, visualization, discovery, and exploration.
  • Build clean, secure, well-documented RESTful APIs and scalable microservices that integrate front-end applications, platform services, and enterprise data products.
  • Design and implement cloud-native data solutions supporting real-time and batch processing on GCP using services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Functions.
  • Ingest, integrate, standardize, and optimize data from diverse sources so it is governed, accessible, and ready for analytics and AI use cases.
  • Leverage tools and frameworks such as Apache Beam, Kafka, and related technologies to deliver scalable data-platform features.
  • Implement secure data governance practices, including role-based access control, encryption, data masking, and GCP row- and column-level security.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve application, pipeline, and storage performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Automate platform processes to reduce manual intervention, improve reliability, and support efficient operations.
  • Write and maintain high-quality unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure strong coverage and dependable releases.
  • Own features end-to-end, including technical design, development, testing, code review, CI/CD deployment, production release, and operational support.
  • Manage code through GitHub and apply SDLC, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and engineering-quality practices to deliver software safely and efficiently.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools and practices to accelerate solution design, coding, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and delivery while maintaining high standards for security, quality, and reliability.
  • Identify practical opportunities to use AI capabilities within platform features and engineering workflows to improve efficiency, user experience, and business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and cross-functional partners to establish reusable frameworks, design patterns, technical standards, and best practices.
  • Bring a builder's mindset: understand the purpose behind the system, solve practical customer and business problems, and continuously identify cleaner, smarter ways to deliver value.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience as a full-stack software engineer, with the ability to develop both user-facing applications and backend services.
  • Proficiency in Java or Python, with experience building scalable services; experience with Java Spring Boot is highly valued.
  • Experience with modern front-end development and JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React, Node.js, or similar technologies.
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and integrated web applications.
  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying cloud-based applications, data pipelines, or microservices on GCP; familiarity with BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Functions is strongly preferred.
  • Experience integrating data from multiple sources and developing applications that support data discovery, access, visualization, or analytics workflows.
  • Familiarity with Apache Beam, Kafka, or similar distributed-processing and event-streaming technologies.
  • Experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL or MySQL; NoSQL databases; and/or columnar platforms such as BigQuery.
  • Understanding of cloud data governance and security practices, including role-based access control, encryption, data masking, and secure access patterns.
  • Working knowledge of the complete SDLC, including solution design, coding, code review, testing, deployment, release management, and production support.
  • Experience with Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code-quality practices.
  • Familiarity with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools, such as Terraform.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI-enabled development tools, assistants, or workflows to improve engineering productivity, accelerate feature delivery, strengthen testing, or resolve technical problems.
  • Ability to apply responsible engineering judgment when using AI, including validating generated output, protecting sensitive data, and ensuring solutions meet security, quality, and maintainability standards.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to resolve complex application, microservices, and data-platform issues.
  • Ability to independently own features while collaborating effectively with a cross-functional engineering team.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new languages, frameworks, and tools as platform needs evolve.

Even better, you may have...

  • Experience building and operating enterprise-scale data platforms or shared cloud platform capabilities.
  • Experience developing data-intensive full-stack applications used by large internal or external customer populations.
  • Experience with high-volume, real-time, or event-driven data systems.
  • Google Cloud certification, such as Professional Cloud Architect or another Google Cloud Professional certification.
