THE ROLE
- FULL TIME

Oral Roberts University is looking for a Front End Web Developer with a strong eye for UI/UX to join our web team. This is an entry-level position with real ownership you'll work alongside our Senior Web Developer to shape how prospective students discover ORU online. Our website is one of the most important front doors to the university, and the work you do directly supports the students who'll walk through it.

Location: Tulsa, OK. This is an on-site position. Relocation assistance is not provided.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Take designs through their full lifecycle: turning wireframes into mockups, mockups into clean HTML/CSS, and integrating polished pages into our CMS.
  • Support the Senior Web Developer on work for marketing requests, small builds, and large-scale web initiatives.
  • Maintain and improve our CMS templates, troubleshoot issues, and help keep our content management system running smoothly for editors across the university.
  • Contribute creative input on UX/UI flow and ensure designs and builds reinforce a consistent ORU brand across the main site and our family of mini-sites.
  • Pivot quickly on high-priority items when they come up livestream functionality, homepage alerts, fast-track marketing projects.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to speed up repetitive work and free up time for the creative, high-impact parts of the job.
  • Help document team processes and assist with small training sessions for editors.
  • Help build and maintain systems that empower departmental editors to update their own pages while keeping ORU's brand consistent and on-mission.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with an eye for clean, semantic, maintainable code.
  • Basic experience working with CMS templates comfort editing template files, working within a CMS's structure and conventions, and understanding how templates, content, and assets fit together to render a page. Bonus if you've worked across multiple CMSes and can pick up new ones quickly.
  • Experience with a CSS framework (Bootstrap or Tailwind preferred).
  • Familiarity with a JavaScript framework or library (React, Vue, or similar).
  • Comfort with Git and GitHub: feature branches, pull requests, code review, clear commit messages.
  • Responsive, mobile-first design instincts most of our visitors are on phones.
  • Awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA) and a willingness to grow into them.
  • Familiarity with Figma or similar design tools for translating mockups into code.
  • Working understanding of APIs, browser compatibility testing, and page performance basics (Lighthouse, Core Web Vitals).
  • Experience using AI coding assistants well: writing prompts with the right context, validating output before committing, knowing when AI is the wrong tool, and contributing to internal AI workflows over time.
  • A heart for ORU's mission and a desire to do excellent work that honors it.
NICE TO HAVE
  • A personal portfolio, GitHub profile, or deployed projects we can look at.
  • Familiarity with basic server setups (Apache, nginx).
  • Experience with static site generators (Astro, Eleventy, Hugo) for mini-sites.
  • Background in higher education, nonprofit, or agency environments.
  • Basic SEO, AEO/GEO (optimizing content to show up well in AI-powered search and answer engines), structured data, and analytics (Google Analytics 4) exposure.\

This role grows with you. Training on our CMS and team tools is part of onboarding, and over time you'll have the chance to own specific areas mini-sites, accessibility, analytics, CMS templating, training, and beyond.
