Job Title: Senior Backend Software Engineer

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Contract

Pay Rate: $65 - $70/ hour

Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k). 

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in transforming a core financial product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, testing, and delivery of reliable backend services
  • Help define and evolve the system architecture in a service-oriented environment
  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Deliver high-availability, high-scalability services in a cloud-native environment
  • Mentor peers and foster a strong engineering culture
  • Drive innovation through new ideas and continuous improvements
  • Work closely with product and design teams throughout the product lifecycle
  • Support production systems and participate in the on-call rotation

Preferred Background & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 4+ years of backend development experience with modern tech stacks
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Kotlin, or Scala
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and ORM tools
  • Experience with microservices or service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • Comfortable working in Kubernetes-based infrastructure environments
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to work end-to-end from concept to production
  • Familiarity with collaborative development practices like code reviews and CI/CD pipelines

Nice to Have:

  • Interest in personal finance or experience with consumer financial products
  • Familiarity with distributed systems technologies such as Kafka and Docker
  • Exposure to full-stack development (React, TypeScript, or similar)
  • Prior experience in fintech, digital banking, or financial services
