Software Engineer
Capstone Research Corporation is seeking to expand our team. Capstone Research Corporation is headquartered in Huntsville Alabama. We have an immediate opening for a Software Engineer to work in our Huntsville, AL office. The successful candidate will join the interdisciplinary Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis Group supporting existing Joint Tactical Integrated Fire Control projects/programs. We are seeking a Software Engineer to support the development of advanced software and algorithms for aerospace applications. The successful candidate will work closely with systems, software, and algorithm engineers to develop, integrate, test, and deploy software supporting complex aerospace and mission systems. Candidates with an aerospace background and experience developing, training, and evaluating neural networks are highly desirable. 3-5 years of software engineering experience is desired, including co-op, intern, academic research and/or other work experience.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work on-site within a collaborative team environment to engineer joint tactical integrated fire control solutions
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software using C++ and Python.
  • Develop algorithms and software supporting complex aerospace and mission-system applications.
  • Analyze complex datasets and develop software and algorithms to extract meaningful information and support engineering decisions.
  • Develop, train, test, and evaluate neural networks and machine-learning algorithms.
  • Prototype algorithms in Python and transition validated algorithms into efficient, production-quality C++ implementations.
  • Develop unit, integration, and system-level tests to verify software performance and correctness.
  • Analyze software and algorithm performance and identify opportunities for optimization.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 1 - 5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ and/or Python.
  • Experience writing and maintaining unit test with Google Test or similar framework.
  • Ability to operate independently with technical guidance.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • 3 references, including 1 personal and 2 who are familiar with the candidate's prior professional work experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be able to qualify for a DoD Secret or higher clearance

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with DoD operations, concepts, and technologies and their supporting sensors, effectors, and networks.
  • Experience working with CI/CD systems (GitLab CI preferred).
  • Professional experience developing software for aerospace, defense, autonomous systems, control systems, or other complex mission systems.
  • Experience developing, training, and evaluating neural networks or machine-learning algorithms.
  • Understanding of machine-learning and deep-learning fundamentals.
  • Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
  • Strong background in data analysis, statistics, probability, and processing of complex datasets.
