What We Are Looking For
The BOLT (Building Opportunities & Learning Together) Intern Program is Kinder Morgan's elite summer internship program. Do you want to spend your summer gaining hands-on experience in the energy industry while enhancing your professional and interpersonal skills? At Kinder Morgan, you will have the opportunity to do just that by participating in meaningful projects that support our vision of delivering energy to improve lives and create a better world.
What You Will Do
BUSINESS UNITS: VARIOUS
Financial Planning & Analysis Interns will be assigned within the following Financial Planning business units over the course of the internship: Natural Gas Pipelines, CO2, Energy Transition Ventures, Products Pipelines, Terminals, Operational Support Group Planning, or Corporate Financial Planning
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As an FP&A Intern, you will have the opportunity to apply your finance and accounting education in real-world situations, while gaining practical experience alongside talented finance professionals. FP&A Interns will actively participate in financial modeling, analysis, and reporting processes.
The candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Evaluating and improving financial models, reports, and systems related to Kinder Morgan's bi-weekly Flash processes
  • Analyzing variances and providing concise explanations of key drivers
  • Assisting with preparation of summary materials for presentation to senior leadership and Office of the Chair
  • Interacting frequently with various teams to provide deliverables and drive efficiency
  • Providing support to team members as necessary
  • Participating in forecast calls and meetings
  • Managing a special project to be presented to executives at the end of the internship

Over the course of the summer internship, the candidate will have the opportunity to learn the following:
  • Energy industry topics and business drivers
  • Financial concepts
  • Corporate forecasting processes
  • Problem solving skills
  • Summarization and reporting of data
  • Organization and time management skills

A successful intern should be able to do the following at the end of the summer:
  • Understand key terminology
  • Understand the forecast process
  • Summarize large amounts of data
  • Strategically use Microsoft Excel

This internship will provide exposure to the following:
  • Forecasting
  • Budgeting
  • Quarterly SEC reporting & board presentation analysis
  • Regional processes and personnel
  • Meetings with management team

What You Need
Minimum Requirements:
  • Working toward a undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration, with expected graduation in December 2027 or May 2028
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office - (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Candidate should be outgoing, energetic and self-motivated
  • Must articulate well, work well under pressure and consistently be able to meet deadlines
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a team environment and to be able to work independently

Working Conditions:
  • Office environment
  • Some assignments may offer a hybrid schedule (Mon, Tue, Wed in-office; Thu, Fri remote)
  • Travel may be required (<10%)
