What does an intern event designer do?

An Intern Event Designer assists in planning, organizing, and executing events under the guidance of senior event designers or coordinators. Their responsibilities often include helping with venue selection, creating event layouts, sourcing decorations, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring the overall aesthetic meets client expectations. Interns may also support administrative tasks such as preparing presentation materials, managing guest lists, and assisting during event setup and breakdown. This role provides hands-on experience in the events industry and helps interns develop creative, organizational, and communication skills.

What types of projects and tasks can an intern event designer expect to work on during their internship?

As an Intern Event Designer, you will typically assist with a variety of tasks such as brainstorming creative event themes, developing mood boards, sourcing décor, and coordinating logistics with vendors. You may also support the design team in creating floor plans, preparing presentation materials, and setting up event spaces. Collaboration is key, as you'll work closely with event managers, suppliers, and sometimes clients to ensure the design vision is executed smoothly. This hands-on experience allows you to gain insight into the full event design process and build a strong foundation for a future career in event planning and design.

To thrive as an Intern Event Designer, you need a creative mindset, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of event planning concepts, often supported by coursework or experience in hospitality, design, or related fields. Familiarity with design software (such as Adobe Creative Suite), event management platforms, and basic budgeting tools is highly beneficial. Strong communication, teamwork, adaptability, and time management skills help you excel in dynamic environments and meet client expectations. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering successful events that align with client visions while ensuring smooth execution.
