Intern Entry Level Project Managers are usually students or recent graduates gaining initial experience in project management, often through internships. They focus on learning project processes and assisting with basic tasks. While both roles support project teams, Intern Entry Level Project Managers are more focused on learning and development, whereas Project Coordinators handle ongoing coordination tasks.

How to get a project manager internship?

To secure a project manager internship, candidates should develop strong organizational and communication skills, gain familiarity with project management tools like MS Project or Trello, and pursue relevant coursework or certifications such as CAPM. Applying to internships through company career portals, university programs, or job boards and demonstrating leadership potential can improve chances of selection.

Can an intern be a project manager?

Typically, an intern is not qualified to serve as a project manager because the role requires experience in planning, leadership, and decision-making. Interns may assist with project tasks under supervision but usually do not hold full project management responsibilities. Entry-level project management positions often require relevant skills, certifications, or prior experience.

How do I get into project manager with no experience?

Entry-level project manager roles often require strong organizational and communication skills, which can be developed through relevant coursework, certifications like CAPM or PMP, and gaining experience in related fields such as coordination or team leadership. Internships, volunteering, or entry-level positions in project support can also provide practical experience to build a foundation for a project management career.

Job description

Intern Architect / Project Assistant

Architecture

Security clearance eligibility required | Canadian Citizenship required *

Location: Toronto, ON - On-Site full time (North York)
Salary Range: $67,000 – $85,000 (depending on experience + skills)

Other titles: Intern Architect, Junior Project Assistant, Junior Project Manager, Architectural Project Manager Assistant, Project Administrator, Junior Project Coordinator

THE COMPANY

A highly respected and well established architecture practice is seeking an Intern Architect who can work in the role of a Project Manager Assistant to join their team and to work on a secure, high-profile federal government project currently underway in Toronto. This is a rare opportunity to be embedded full-time on a confidential public-sector project, working side-by-side with the project team, consultants, and client in a dedicated on-site project office.

THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the Project Manager on site, the Intern Architect / Project Assistant will act as a key support role within the project team — helping to manage information flow, document control, schedules, and communication across all disciplines.

This position will be fully on-site for the duration of the project due to confidentiality and security requirements. Upon project completion, the role will transition to support other public-sector projects within the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the Project Manager with day-to-day coordination of a confidential federal project

  • Manage and track architectural project documentation across all stages

  • Distribute and coordinate project deliverables and schedules for all project stages

  • Lead document control processes, including RFIs, site instructions, and payment documentation - coordinate with Project Manager and Contract Administrators to ensure successful execution

  • Coordinate information exchange between consultants, contractors, and internal teams in a secure environment

  • Attend project meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and follow up on action items

  • Assist with issuing drawings and deliverables, ensuring approvals, seals, and compliance requirements are met

  • This role is best suited to someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoys being deeply involved in the day-to-day coordination of complex architectural projects.

WHAT'S REQUIRED

  • 4–8 years of relevant experience (Architectural coordination, technologist, PM assistant, Project Coordinator, etc), with at least 2+ years working with Canadian construction practices and from within an Architecture firm or related company (PM experience from a GC will not suffice)

  • Background in architecture or multidisciplinary design consulting — experience working within an architecture firm is strongly preferred or education in Architecture

  • Solid understanding of the design process and consultant coordination (this is not a construction-only project coordination role)

  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Revit or architectural software an asset but not essential

  • Ability to work full-time on site for the duration of the project in Toronto

Security Requirement

  • Active or eligible Security Clearance is required for this role

  • Canadian Citizenship required

  • *Must not of resided in or visited countries in the past 10 years on the Canadian government exclusion list for security clearance eligibility (China, Iran, Pakistan, India, Russia).

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN

  • Work on a rare, confidential federal government project

  • Be embedded in a fully integrated on-site project team environment

  • Gain hands-on experience supporting a senior Project Manager on a complex public-sector build

  • Long-term opportunity beyond the project, with potential to transition to a more flexible model in the future

  • Competitive compensation + benefits

WHAT TO DO NOW

If this opportunity aligns with your experience and career goals, please apply with your resume or reach out to Laura Shalev at lshalev@talentsphere.ca for further details.
