How much do intern embedded c programming jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for intern embedded c programming in the United States is $25.42, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.67 and $28.85 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is Embedded C hard?

Embedded C programming for an intern role involves understanding low-level hardware interaction, real-time constraints, and resource management, which can be challenging for beginners. It requires knowledge of microcontrollers, debugging skills, and familiarity with development tools like IDEs and compilers. With practice and foundational programming skills, it becomes manageable over time.

Is C or C++ better for embedded?

For an embedded C programming intern, C is generally preferred due to its simplicity, low-level hardware access, and smaller memory footprint, making it suitable for resource-constrained environments. C++ offers features like object-oriented programming, which can be beneficial for complex projects but may introduce additional overhead. The choice depends on the project requirements and hardware capabilities.

What is the salary of Embedded C programmer?

The salary of an Embedded C programmer varies based on experience, location, and industry, but typically ranges from $60,000 to $110,000 annually. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced professionals with skills in microcontrollers and real-time operating systems can earn higher salaries.

Will AI replace embedded developers?

AI is unlikely to fully replace embedded C programmers, as their expertise is essential for designing, coding, and debugging embedded systems. AI tools can assist with code generation and testing, but human oversight and specialized knowledge remain critical in embedded development environments. Skills in hardware understanding and real-time constraints are also vital that AI cannot fully replicate.

What is the difference between Intern Embedded C Programming vs Intern Firmware Development?

AspectIntern Embedded C ProgrammingIntern Firmware Development
Required SkillsEmbedded C, microcontroller basics, debuggingEmbedded C, hardware interaction, firmware design
Work EnvironmentEmbedded systems labs, electronics workshopsEmbedded systems labs, hardware testing environments
Industry UsageConsumer electronics, automotive, IoT devicesConsumer electronics, industrial equipment, IoT

Intern Embedded C Programming and Intern Firmware Development roles share skills like embedded C and work in embedded systems environments. However, firmware development often involves deeper hardware interaction and firmware design, making it more hardware-centric. Both roles are common in industries like consumer electronics and IoT, but firmware development may require additional hardware knowledge.

Job description

Embedded Firmware Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Summary:

This role focuses on low-level embedded firmware development tightly coupled with hardware. The ideal candidate will develop, debug, and maintain embedded C firmware, work directly with hardware designs, and own firmware issues from identification through resolution in a fast paced, cross functional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and debug low level embedded C firmware interacting directly with hardware.
  • Diagnose system and firmware issues across products and code branches.
  • Review schematics and validate firmware behavior against hardware design.
  • Generate engineering binaries, submit changes to repositories, and manage build and packaging workflows.
  • Coordinate closely with hardware, factory, program management, and technical teams.
  • Drive issues to closure by tracking tasks, evaluating priorities, and proactively removing blockers.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to stakeholders.
  • Participate in regular sync calls with China based teams during late afternoon or evening hours.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Up to 10 years of relevant embedded firmware and driver development
  • Strong Embedded C experience, including low level debugging skills and knowledge of dynamic memory allocation
  • Strong embedded C experience with solid low level debugging skills
  • Recent experience with hardware design concepts and ability to read schematics
  • Strong knowledge with interfaces such as GPIO, SPI, I2C. USB (high speed)
  • Python and or Lua scripting to automate testing and debug workflows
  • Create scripts and tools to improve efficiency and reliability of firmware validation
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills
  • BS in Computer Engineering or equivalent experience, MS is a plus

Type: Full Time

Location: Cupertino, CA (Onsite Monday thru Friday)

Pay Rate Range: $53-$66/h (DOE)
