Position Overview

Our team is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer on behalf of one of our clients located in Annapolis Junction, Maryland. This position will support complex, mission-driven programs and will be responsible for planning and leading systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle, including requirements development, system architecture, integration, testing, and operational support for large-scale distributed systems.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience supporting mid-to-large scale programs, working with distributed architectures, multimedia data systems, and advanced storage and retrieval platforms. This role requires strong technical leadership and the ability to collaborate across engineering teams and mission stakeholders in dynamic environments.


Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead Systems Engineering (SE) efforts for programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

  • Develop and maintain system architectures, requirements, and engineering documentation.

  • Support the full system lifecycle, including design, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment.

  • Define and manage system requirements related to performance, scalability, availability, security, and manageability.

  • Integrate and extend Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) technologies.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).

  • Conduct system performance analysis, architecture trade studies, and solution development.

  • Develop technical documentation and training materials related to system design and operational issues.

  • Provide leadership in Agile and/or spiral development environments.


Required Qualifications
  • Twenty (20) years of experience as a Systems Engineer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

  • Demonstrated experience planning and leading Systems Engineering efforts.

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines from an accredited college or university:

    • Systems Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Information Systems

    • Engineering Science

    • Engineering Management

    • Or a related discipline

Substitution:
Five (5) years of additional Systems Engineering experience may be substituted in place of a bachelor’s degree.


Desired Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Large-scale multimedia and multilingual content processing systems, including ingest of multiple formats, audio playback, storage, and retrieval.

  • Distributed peer-to-peer storage and retrieval systems with more than 500 nodes.

  • Metadata indexing, summarization, and data mining, including visualization and analytics.

  • Development of system requirements for performance, availability, scalability, manageability, and security on mid-to-large scale programs.

  • Creating technical documentation for system issues and/or training.

  • Leading teams in Agile and/or spiral development models.

  • Developing solutions that integrate and extend COTS products.

  • Integrating COTS and GOTS solutions from multiple vendors.

  • Developing distributed storage routing and querying algorithms.

  • Implementing storage area networks (SAN), data warehouses, and data marts.

  • Optimizing storage, retrieval, backup, and retention strategies across globally distributed, high-throughput text and multimedia storage systems.

  • Deploying storage solutions within clustered or cloud environments.

  • Working with users and stakeholders in cross-Integrated Product Team (IPT) environments.

  • Planning and integrating secure, compliant solutions based on legal, policy, and compliance directives.

  • Knowledge of HDFS, Hadoop, and/or HBase/Accumulo (BigTable-style architectures).
