Intern Computer Architect information

What does an intern computer architect do?

An Intern Computer Architect assists in designing, analyzing, and testing computer system architectures under the supervision of experienced engineers. Their responsibilities often include supporting the development of processors, memory systems, and data pathways, as well as helping to optimize performance and efficiency. Interns may work on simulations, documentation, and collaborate with teams to implement new features or troubleshoot issues. This role provides valuable hands-on experience and exposure to the hardware design process in a real-world setting.

What are some common projects or tasks an intern computer architect might work on during their internship?

As an Intern Computer Architect, you may assist in designing, simulating, and evaluating processor or system architectures under the guidance of senior engineers. Typical tasks include running benchmark tests, analyzing hardware performance data, and contributing to documentation or presentations. You might also collaborate with software and hardware teams to optimize system performance or troubleshoot integration issues. The work environment is usually highly collaborative, offering exposure to cross-functional teams and real-world architectural challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern computer architect, and why are they important?

To succeed as an Intern Computer Architect, you generally need a solid background in computer engineering, digital logic design, and computer organization, often supported by coursework or a degree in computer science or electrical engineering. Familiarity with hardware description languages (like Verilog or VHDL), simulation tools, and version control systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help interns excel in collaborative and technical environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for contributing to design projects, learning quickly, and supporting the development of efficient computing systems.

The Drafting Intern will assist with as-built drawings, basic CAD drafting, finish material selections, project documentation, and coordination with our design, estimating, and construction teams. This role will be part-time and may include a mix of office work, field measuring, and project support.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with creating asbuilt drawings from field measurements
  • Help measure existing homes, rooms, and project areas
  • Draft floor plans, elevations, and basic construction details in CAD
  • Update drawings based on design changes and team feedback
  • Assist with finish material selections for projects
  • Help organize selections for flooring, tile, cabinets, countertops, fixtures, paint colors, and other finish items
  • Coordinate with the design and estimating teams on project details
  • Assist with preparing drawing packages for pricing, client review, and construction use
  • Help maintain organized project files, notes, photos, and drawings

  • Ability to take field measurements and translate them into drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Good communication skills
  • Comfortable working in both an office setting and occasionally in the field
