Job description

Job Summary Under general direction, is responsible for assisting with the monitoring of protected properties held under City of San Antonio conservation easements covering more than 188,000 acres of land, as well as administrative professional work related to program needs. Duties will include accompanying city staff during annual monitoring visits requiring field visits to rural properties in Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Kendall, Medina, and Uvalde counties. This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission.

This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason. The City is seeking an ideal candidate who has the following: A passion for conserving land and natural resources for the benefit of future generations Understanding of emerging public policy pertaining to natural resources, conservation, water resources, watershed management, land preservation, habitat protection, and climate change Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to exercise initiative and good judgement Effective written and verbal communication skills Work Location Phil Hardberger Park, 8400 NW Military Highway, San Antonio, TX 78231 Work Hours Days and hours are subject to program scheduling and may be negotiated. Essential Job Functions Aids in on-site monitoring visits Assists with administrative tasks related to the annual monitoring of properties, as well as future property acquisitions Assists in drafting written memos, letters, or documents pertaining to monitoring or acquisition-related needs Aids in data entry of spreadsheets or summaries Assists in review of environmental-related documents including Environmental Documentation Reports (EDRs), Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), and Geological Assessments Organizes hard copy and electronic files and creates new files requiring copying and scanning of related documents Assists in review of title documents, surveys, appraisals, or other related real estate documents May assist in preparation of meeting minutes related to Conservation Advisory Board meetings May assist in review of proposed monitoring plans May assist in mapping-related needs including the use of mapping software programs, such as ArcGIS, Avenza Maps, or other related programs Assists with special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate. Must be enrolled in U.S. Department of Education accredited undergraduate degree program

Preferred Qualifications Coursework, studies, or familiarization in natural resources, biology, wildlife biology, environmental studies, geology, geography, business or public administration, economics, or other related field Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License or obtain a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas Ability to work outdoors, traversing rough terrain on foot and by four-wheel drive vehicle on unpaved roads Applicant Information Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of statistical analysis. Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing rudimentary software.

Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbally Ability to work remotely requiring the use of a personal computer, phone, internet, or laptop, as well as word processing and spreadsheet applications Ability to create clear and concise reports. Ability to learn pertinent Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
