Job description

Position Objective:
The Food Service Intern will work closely with the Dining Manager, Executive Chef, and Food Retail Manager to assist Mount Hermon's Food Service operations through administrative support. The FSI will learn about and practice administrative responsibilities that support departmental productivity and compliance, growing and utilizing skills that are applicable in administration and management across fields, all in a manner consistent with MHA's mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.
General Qualifications:
The Food Service Intern is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.'s ("MHA") Christian mission, vision, beliefs, culture code and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA's Christian community, conference programs and retreats. All staff are expected to join gatherings, which includes prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching.
Key Job Accountabilities:
  • Collect, organize and distribute all applicable Mount Hermon event details, ensuring changes are updated and communicated in a timely manner.
  • Assist with entering schedules for all Food Service staff into the appropriate systems, communicating any adjustment needs to managers and monitoring for follow up.
  • Track and report needs of hiring & onboarding process, training, and department recordkeeping.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining departmental communication systems, file organization, and document preparation.
  • Support special events and seasonal food service operations as needed.
  • Attend and participate in weekly Food Service meetings to address upcoming groups, changes, staffing needs and issues, engage in spiritual formation, and plan for upcoming events.
  • Work closely with other interns and team members to complete projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Assist team to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Intern Program Key Accountabilities (10% to 15% of your time)
  • Thoughtfully engage in coursework and readings assigned by the Intern Program Director, in order to grow in your understanding of God, yourself, and your vocational calling.
  • Attend, engage, and contribute to weekly Intern Program meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in two Intern Retreats, and one all-staff retreat.

Other Responsibilities (up to 25% of your time)
  • Serve cross-departmentally in order to learn other skills and service roles in camping ministry. This includes, but is not limited to: Dining, Facilities, Accommodations and Guest Services (host a guest group on a weekend day).
  • Help facilitate a Guest Group event during the Thanksgiving holiday week, in partnership with Mount Hermon's Guest Services team and other departments.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:
  • Bachelor's Degree required

Work Experience:
  • Food Handler's certification (may complete upon hire)
  • Prior experience in hospitality, food service, or administrative assistance preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must possess excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in scheduling and data entry platforms.
  • Ability to handle a busy and demanding work schedule in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism at all times: reliable, punctual and hardworking.

Physical Demands:
  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside (on occasion). Requires sitting for stretches of time, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting and the ability to legally drive and operate motor vehicles.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must agree to and comply with MHA's employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA's mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
