Battery R&D Intern

We are seeking a Battery R&D Intern to support our engineering team in developing battery prototypes. This internship is offered through the MassCEC Clean Energy Program. We prioritize candidates meeting MassCEC eligibility, but encourage all exceptional applicants to apply.

We are supported by Breakthrough Energy and guided by a consortium of world-class advisors from both academia and industry. Based at Greentown Labs in Somerville, we are on a mission to build prototypes in close collaboration with our customers. We are looking for world-class talent to join us in pushing the frontiers of battery technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and processing of chemicals, including waste disposal
  • Support the senior engineers with cell and electrolyte preparation
  • Support cell assembly and conduct electrochemical experiments
  • Data collection, storing, consolidation, and visualization
  • Work in compliance with safety regulations
  • Support the engineering team in a variety of tasks

Required Technical Qualification

  • Background in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related subject
  • Hands-on experience in wet labs and working with hazardous chemicals
  • Familiar with chemical safety procedures

Personal Attributes

  • Passionate with strong intrinsic motivation and ambition
  • Fast learner who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced, and ambiguous environments
  • Collaborative team player who takes ownership of their work and actively contributes to shared goals

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience working with glove boxes and batteries
