About the Role:

The Principal Cloud Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, engineering, and evolving the enterprise Azure cloud platform while enabling the next generation of AI-powered engineering capabilities. This role drives cloud platform architecture, automation, governance, developer productivity, and Generative AI adoption across the organization. The Principal Cloud Engineer partners closely with application teams, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud solutions while leveraging Azure and GenAI technologies to accelerate delivery, automate operations, reduce cognitive load, and improve engineering efficiency.

Responsibilities of the Role:

Platform Engineering & Architecture

  • Design and evolve Azure cloud platform capabilities, landing zones, and shared services.
  • Define reference architectures, engineering standards, and reusable patterns that enable secure and scalable cloud adoption.
  • Lead technical decisions related to cloud architecture, resiliency, security, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Evaluate and introduce emerging Azure, cloud-native, and Generative AI technologies that enhance platform capabilities, operational efficiency, and developer productivity.
  • Help establish enterprise patterns for AI-enabled platforms, automation, and intelligent operations.

Automation, AI & Cloud Operations

  • Drive Infrastructure as Code, platform automation, and self-service capabilities using modern cloud engineering practices.
  • Design and implement CI/CD, GitOps, and platform engineering solutions that simplify cloud consumption and reduce operational overhead.
  • Leverage Generative AI capabilities to automate engineering workflows, operational processes, incident response, knowledge management, and developer support.
  • Establish governance, compliance, and policy-as-code controls across cloud environments.
  • Partner with teams to improve operational reliability, lifecycle management, and cloud engineering efficiency through automation and AI-assisted solutions.

Cloud Consulting & Modernization

  • Guide application teams through cloud migration, modernization, cloud-native transformation, and AI adoption initiatives.
  • Provide expertise in security, identity, and enterprise cloud architecture.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor for complex cloud, platform, and AI-enabled engineering initiatives.

Technical Leadership

  • Act as a senior technical authority for Azure cloud engineering, platform strategy, and AI-enabled engineering practices.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence, automation, and AI adoption across the organization.
  • Lead technical governance activities, and strategic cloud initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and responsible use of Generative AI technologies.
Requirements of the Role:

Experience

  • 10+ years of infrastructure, platform, or cloud engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Azure engineering and architecture experience in enterprise environments.
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale cloud platforms.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, automation frameworks, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Experience leveraging automation, AI-assisted engineering tools, or Generative AI capabilities to improve engineering productivity and operational outcomes.

Technical Skills

  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure foundational platform services.
  • Expert level knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • CI/CD, Git-based development workflows, and platform automation.
  • Kubernetes, container platforms, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Cloud security, identity, governance, and observability practices.
  • Proficient in Python.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI platforms, AI agents, prompt engineering, AI-assisted development tools, or enterprise AI architectures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Administrator, or related certifications.
  • Experience with multi-cloud environments including AWS.
  • Experience building platform engineering or internal developer platform capabilities.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale, regulated environments.
  • Experience designing, deploying, or operating infrastructure and governance controls for AI-enabled applications.
