Job description

Sound Engineer Internship

Faith In Action Church is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Sound Engineer Intern to oversee and manage audio production during worship, streaming services, and special events. This role is ideal for someone who already has hands-on experience with live sound systems and is looking to further develop their skills in a ministry setting.

This position requires a candidate who can confidently step into a live-service environment with a working knowledge of audio engineering principles and equipment. We will provide a list of our current equipment and setup, and candidates are expected to familiarize themselves with the system.

This role offers the opportunity to apply and expand existing audio engineering skills while making a meaningful impact through ministry. The Sound Engineer Intern plays a vital role in helping create an environment where people can worship, connect, and engage without technical distractions.

TIME COMMITMENT
- Approximately 4–5 hours each Sunday, with periodic weekday services and rehearsals
- Additional event dates, conferences, and special events will be communicated and scheduled in advance

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
BEFORE SERVICE
• Review service needs and audio requirements
• Set up and test microphones, instruments, playback devices, and other audio equipment
• Conduct sound checks with speakers, musicians, and worship team members
• Ensure all audio systems are functioning properly prior to service

DURING SERVICE
• Operate and manage the sound system during live worship services
• Monitor and adjust audio levels for speakers, musicians, vocalists, online streaming, and media playback
• Quickly identify and resolve audio issues as they arise
• Maintain consistent sound quality throughout the service experience

AFTER SERVICE
• Power down and secure audio equipment
• Ensure equipment is stored properly and remains in good working condition
• Document and communicate any equipment concerns or technical issues
• Provide recommendations for improving audio quality and workflow when appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior experience with live audio engineering or sound production required
• Working knowledge of mixing consoles, microphones, signal flow, stage audio, and troubleshooting techniques
• Ability to learn and adapt to an existing audio setup independently
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to remain calm and focused in a live-production environment
• Dependable, punctual, and professional
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Residing within the local area is a plus
• Available to serve year-round is a plus
• Interested in becoming a consistent part of the ministry team rather than serving only for a semester or academic term

INTERNSHIP DETAILS
Location: Faith In Action Church • 4603 Cape Henry Ave. Norfolk, VA 23513

Training: No formal training will be provided. A list of church equipment and system information will be shared in advance. Candidates are expected to review and familiarize themselves with the equipment.
Compensation: $15 /HR
