Position – Complex Embedded Logic & Digital Electronics Design Engineer

Location: West Hartford, CT

We are currently seeking an experienced Complex Embedded Logic & Digital Electronics Design Engineer for an opportunity supporting aerospace engine control systems in West Hartford, CT.

This position is responsible for designing and developing FPGA, PLD, ASIC, and other complex electronic hardware solutions used in actuator controls, motor controls, sensor interfaces, fuel regulation, digital communications, programmable logic, and power conditioning applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop FPGA, PLD, ASIC, and complex digital electronic hardware
  • Develop product requirements, allocate design requirements, and perform compliance assessments
  • Create block diagrams, design concepts, and circuit topologies for FPGA, PLD, digital, and analog interface designs
  • Perform preliminary and detailed design analyses, modeling, and simulations
  • Collaborate with electrical, systems, software, mechanical, packaging, project, and program management teams
  • Establish realistic estimates for assigned tasks and support program cost and schedule objectives
  • Prepare engineering plans, procedures, validation documents, design reports, and technical documentation
  • Prepare for and support internal audits, customer audits, design reviews, and certification activities
  • Support Designated Engineering Representatives and Organizational Delegation Authorities as required
  • Conduct laboratory testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, meters, power supplies, programmers, and data acquisition equipment
  • Support design assurance, verification, validation, and qualification testing
  • Ensure compliance with internal engineering processes, standard work, and design-review requirements
  • Support Design for Excellence, design-to-cost, and design-to-weight objectives
  • Participate in internal and external customer meetings
  • Support the transition of products from development into production
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Summary of Education, Experience and Certification

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline required. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant FPGA or PLD design experience required
  • Aerospace electronics or engine control experience strongly preferred
  • Experience designing digital circuits with analog interfaces required
  • Experience with ASICs, FPGAs, PLDs, or other complex electronic hardware required
  • Knowledge of RTCA DO-254 standards preferred
  • Experience supporting aerospace certification or design-assurance activities preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of FPGA, PLD, ASIC, and digital circuit design principles
  • Experience with Actel, Xilinx, Altera, or similar programmable logic platforms
  • Experience using hardware description, design, and simulation tools
  • Knowledge of analog and digital interface design
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools such as LTspice, Simulink, HyperLynx, or similar applications
  • Experience with CAD tools such as PADS, DxDesigner, HyperLynx, or similar software
  • Familiarity with analysis tools such as MATLAB, Mathcad, Excel, or Minitab
  • Experience using requirements and configuration management tools such as DOORS, Omnify, or similar systems
  • Ability to develop engineering requirements, plans, procedures, reports, and technical presentations
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic hardware using standard laboratory equipment
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, Visual Basic, or embedded microcode is considered an asset
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary aerospace engineering environment
