The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking an Intern – Engineering Land to join our Louisville, KY office.


This role is ideal for a motivated student pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline who is eager to gain hands-on experience supporting land development and infrastructure projects. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers and technical professionals, contributing to meaningful projects while gaining exposure to the planning, design, and construction processes that shape the communities we serve.


Through mentorship and collaboration, you will have the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects involving commercial, municipal, educational, residential, and recreational developments. This internship provides valuable technical experience and insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of engineering professionals within PRIME AE's Land practice.


What You’ll Do:

As an Intern – Engineering Land, you will support project teams with a variety of engineering and design tasks while learning about all phases of project delivery. You will assist with preparing plans, performing calculations, conducting research, and developing technical documents under the guidance of experienced engineers.


In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and gain hands-on experience using industry-standard software and engineering practices. You will also have the opportunity to participate in field visits, observe construction activities, and develop the technical and professional skills needed for a successful career in engineering.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist project teams with the preparation of plans, exhibits, reports, and construction documents.
  • Support engineers with technical calculations, quantity estimates, and project analyses.
  • Assist with the design and development of site, utility, drainage, grading, stormwater, and other land-related infrastructure improvements.
  • Conduct research and gather project data to support engineering studies and reports.
  • Utilize engineering software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Participate in project meetings and collaborate with engineers, planners, landscape architects, surveyors, and other technical professionals.
  • Assist with reviewing plans, specifications, and permitting requirements.
  • Participate in field visits and construction observations as needed.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


What You’ll Bring:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Rising sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student with an interest in land development, infrastructure, or engineering design.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and land development concepts.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other engineering design software is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel occasionally to project sites, if needed.
