Job description

Position Summary:

Assists pharmacists in the drug distribution process.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Counts, packages, pre-packages, and labels medication for inspection by pharmacists and fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals
  • Inputs patient and prescription data into the pharmacy computer system to process prescriptions and maintains patient profiles
  • Maintains pharmacy automation machines including blister packs, robotics and counting machines
  • Accesses medication history within patient electronic records and communicates with providers and health care teams through secure EHR systems
  • Assists and serves patients
  • Assists in ordering, stocking, and maintenance of drug inventory
  • Bills and adjudicates prescription claims
  • Assists in the preparation of reports and written documentation, as required by the department, company, state and federal agencies
  • Ability to use Microsoft office to generate reports that will be presented and communicated within the organization
  • Ability to use different platforms to communicate and organize delivery services and/or mail orders
  • Assists pharmacists as directed

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and submits orders to maintain an adequate inventory of forms, clerical and pharmaceutical supplies, paper and equipment
  • Maintains proper training and education with 340B program compliance requirements
  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops
  • Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed
  • Ability to work at different SYH locations as necessary
  • Assists in medication packages reconciliation and provides pharmaceutical services including but not limited to handling patient refill requests and prescription delivery packages at different day centers within the legal work scope as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements


Education Required:

  • High school/ GED
  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician program

Certifications Required:

  • CA Board of Pharmacy Technician license
  • PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) preferred

Experience Required:

  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician intern hours.

Preferred Experience:

  • Three years of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.

Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job:

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish or English/Arabic preferred and excellent oral and written communication     

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job:

  • Familiarity with the Medi-Cal Program and Medical terminology is preferred. Experience with Pharmacy Automation Machines including blister packs, robotics and counting machines a plus.

Equipment Used:

  • Personal Computer, Pharmacy software systems, Parata Max 2, Eyecon and Kirby Lester counting Machines.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Occasional lifting of supplies and equipment.
  • Superb organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Driving and occasional travel as well as, some evenings and/or Saturdays may be required.

Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs. Compliance with all mandated vaccinations and all boosters is a term and condition of employment.
