Job description

Department OverviewThis position exists within the Utilities Department of OHSU, and serves to design, write, and maintain computer programs for the proprietary computer systems and campus-wide networked systems used by Facilities for life safety, energy management, and building systems automation. The incumbent serves as system administrator over these campus-wide networks and heads up a team of specialized programmers who maintain the daily operations of these systems, including, HVAC control systems and campus-wide energy monitoring/metering systems.Function/Duties of Position

Systems Analysis

  • Consults with department heads and University staff to analyze life safety, access control and environmental network problems and applications. 
  • Identifies and defines user requirements and conceptualizes workable systems to meet those needs. 
  • Estimates feasibility and costs/benefits associated with producing such a system, provides options for consideration and recommends equipment for purchase.

System Design  

  • Designs monitoring solutions to protect vital research specimens using computerized environmental monitoring interfaces. 
  • Originates and implements the design of complex projects related to HVAC environmental instrumentation networks and other programmable building systems. 
  • Designs and develops custom system configurations and control strategies not commercially available. 
  • Installs and configures device drivers, formats and organizes memory systems. 
  • Creates programs to generate reports from equipment operation and maintenance databases. 
  • Designs and writes programs for managing, capturing, controlling, and logging data on building system networks.

System Maintenance

  • Diagnoses and repairs computer systems to component level. 
  • Modifies Facilities Management proprietary network system hardware and software to optimize overall performance. 
  • Provides up to date detailed documentation on all work done in the form of job records and detailed technical reports.  

Team Leadership  

  • Provides leadership, guidance, and technical assistance to team members on systems being designed, modified, or developed. 
  • Prioritizes and assigns various segments of project tasks to team members, sets completion dates for various milestone activities, provides guidance and technical assistance on specification development and coding of programs as needed, check progress of testing and implementation of programs to ensure consistency among team members and recommends appropriate correction and training.

Training  

  • Instructs and provides technical leadership to other Facilities staff during system design, troubleshooting and maintenance in areas of system controls and management. 
  • Instruct lesser skilled employees as they assist in maintenance functions to help develop their skills and provide a progressive work environment.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and three years of experience with building controls systems performing modification, adaptations, construction and design work of an intricate nature; OR
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience must include one year of programming experience.
  • Requires valid State of Oregon or Washington Drivers License.
  • Some positions may require a valid State of Oregon Restricted Energy Electrician's License OR State of Oregon Electrical license. 
  • Must have basic computer skills and a general familiarization with MS Office applications and internet browsers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal training in management and communications.
  • 4+ years Leading teams of technicians in installation and/or maintenance of CPU based Building Automation systems. 

  • 4+ years technical support of installations of Siemens Desigo Building Automation system networks. 
  • Basic familiarity with AutoCAD.

  • Basic familiarity with using Oracle eAM.
  • Valid State of Oregon Restricted Energy Electrician's License OR State of Oregon Electrical license.
  • LME License
Additional Details

Must be able to adjust schedule as needed to minimize operation impacts to all OHSU missions. All Facilities Staff are subject to recall at any time in the event of an emergency.

Must be able to climb a ladder repeatedly, capable of walking up to 2 miles per day, ascend and descend stairs. Must be able to work in and around high levels of noise, temperatures, dirt, dust, grime, odors, fumes, wet environments, poorly lit areas, biological hazards, radioactive hazards, moving machinery and confined spaces.
