Job description

Thomas & Hutton is a growing, well-established civil engineering firm providing consulting services throughout the Southeast. We are an award-winning company recognized as one of the best places to work in Georgia and South Carolina. Our services include civil, environmental, structural, and marine engineering; land surveying; land planning; landscape architecture; geographic information systems; and construction administration.
Typical Duties
  • Take ownership of assigned projects from concept through delivery, managing quality and timelines with minimal oversight
  • Produce 3D models, renderings, and animations that accurately convey architectural scale, massing, and site context, translating 2D plans, engineering drawings, and written or verbal direction into compelling 3D visualizations
  • Use industry-standard software to create and edit videos, incorporating clips from Lumion or similar rendering packages along with drone context video to produce marketing-quality videos
  • Create highly legible and aesthetic exhibits, maps, and graphic materials for both print and digital use
  • Produce base maps and technical drawings as needed using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Adobe Illustrator, and/or Photoshop
  • Contribute ideas that improve team workflows, templates, and overall department capabilities
  • Commitment to producing graphics that meet Thomas & Hutton standards
  • Involvement in advancing the Visualization Department's capabilities, workflows, standards, templates, and technology.
  • Provide technical guidance, quality review, and informal mentorship to other visualization staff.
  • Assist department leadership with evaluating new software, production methods, and emerging visualization technologies.
  • Scope visualization assignments, establish schedules, and identify the resources needed to deliver the work successfully.

Required Knowledge, Education, and Skills
Education:
A strong portfolio demonstrating professional 3D modeling, rendering, and/or video production work is required. Portfolio submissions must reflect work the candidate personally produced; please do not include team or company work you would not be able to reproduce independently. Technical school training, a degree in a visual design, architecture, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience is preferred.
Experience / Skills:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in 3D modeling, rendering, and/or video production; demonstrated professional experience producing visualizations for architecture, engineering, planning, landscape architecture, real estate development, or infrastructure projects is required.
  • Strong understanding of architectural scale, massing, and proportioning, with the ability to interpret engineering plans, site plans, and sectional drawings and translate them into accurate 3D models
  • Proficiency in modeling software such as SketchUp; Revit and Civil 3D experience a plus
  • Proficiency in rendering software such as Lumion, D5 Render, or similar
  • Strong video production and editing skills, including motion graphics, using Premiere Pro and After Effects
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; InDesign a plus
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and the ability to produce scaled site maps and base drawings
  • Willingness to learn GIS and Infraworks as needed
  • A self-starter mentality: the ability to take a project and run with it, seeking out what is needed to move it forward rather than waiting to be told
  • Willingness to put in the extra effort needed to see projects through to completion, including occasional evenings and weekend work
  • A genuine drive to keep improving, both personally and as a contributing member of the team, and to help elevate the Graphics Department's overall capabilities
  • Versatility, flexibility, and the ability to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work a regular schedule of 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM Friday, with occasional evenings and weekend work
