Job description

About Bolt

Bolt is a full-service Design + Build firm based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We design and deliver exceptional spaces for hospitality, retail, and lifestyle clients who care about craft, culture, and experience. With in-house design, fabrication, and construction teams under one roof, we’re able to move quickly, think holistically, and bring bold ideas to life with precision.

We’re entering our next chapter – and we’re looking for a senior designer who can help shape it.

The role

As a designer, you’ll take the creative reins on some of Bolt’s most important projects. You’ll work closely with our clients, internal teams, and fabrication shop to design spaces that are not just beautiful, but memorable, innovative, and distinctly Bolt.

You’ll bring a strong point of view – and a willingness to challenge norms. We’re not looking for someone to replicate what’s been done. We’re looking for someone to push boundaries, rethink hospitality, and help build a studio that defines what comes next in New York City’s built environment.

You’ll also play a critical role in guiding junior designers, improving studio standards, and driving Bolt’s design culture forward.

What you’ll do:
  • lead design from concept through completion across a range of commercial interior projects (restaurants, bars, cafes, retail, and more)
  • collaborate with clients, builders, fabricators, and consultants to develop integrated, buildable, and boundary-pushing solutions
  • generate mood boards, conceptual narratives, plans, elevations, renderings, and FF&E palettes with clarity and vision
  • oversee drawing sets and deliverables with high attention to detail and design integrity
  • guide and mentor junior designers, giving thoughtful feedback and helping them grow
  • translate abstract client goals into experiential design strategies
  • constantly seek out inspiration, material innovation, and cultural references that elevate the work
  • contribute to Bolt’s creative direction, branding presence, and studio evolution
What we’re looking for:
  • five to ten plus years’ of interior design or architecture experience, with a strong focus on hospitality or experience-driven environments
  • a bold design portfolio that shows original thinking, spatial clarity, and material sensitivity
  • deep familiarity with NYC-based hospitality design – you know the scene, and you’re ready to go beyond it
  • proficiency in key design tools: Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape, AutoCAD, etc.
  • excellent client communication and presentation skills – you can sell the vision and defend the details
  • experience working with builders and fabricators – you love seeing things get built
  • strong leadership skills, with a collaborative and mentoring spirit
  • a design mind that is hungry for experimentation, risk‑taking, and cultural relevance
  • degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field
Why Bolt:
  • see your work built – and built fast. At Bolt, you won’t be stuck pushing paper for years before seeing results. Our projects move quickly, and the work you put in becomes something real, tangible, and lasting
  • be hands‑on. You won’t be siloed behind a screen – you’ll be in the field, in meetings, on walk‑throughs, and fully involved in the process from start to finish
  • work in the heart of Greenpoint. Our studio is based in one of Brooklyn’s most creative neighborhoods – surrounded by great food, inspiring spaces, and a thriving design community
  • join a company on the rise. Bolt is entering a new chapter of growth – and we’re building something special. You’ll help shape the future of the company, not just execute the present
  • build projects you’re proud of. From thoughtful restaurants to bold retail environments, you’ll be part of a team that sweats the details and cares deeply about design, craft, and execution
  • work with good people. We’re a tight-knit, driven team that takes pride in what we do – and has fun doing it. We value trust, accountability, and creative problem‑solving
