Job description

Description:

Are you ready to grow your interior design career while shaping environments that matter?

At SMRT, interior design is an integral part of how we solve complex problems through the built environment. As an Interior Designer II, you’ll contribute to the planning, design, and documentation of interior environments across a wide range of project types. You’ll work alongside architects, engineers, senior interior designers, and clients to create spaces that are functional, well-coordinated, and thoughtfully detailed.

This role offers increasing independence and responsibility while still providing mentorship and support. You’ll be involved in every phase of design—from concept through construction—developing interiors that align with project goals, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Contribute to interior design development across all project phases
  • Develop space plans, finish palettes, and FF&E concepts under the guidance of senior designers
  • Participate in schematic design, design development, and construction documentation
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and presentation materials in alignment with firm standards
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and vendors to maintain design intent
  • Conduct site visits for field verification, existing conditions documentation, and punch lists
  • Review shop drawings and submittals in support of construction administration
  • Ensure design solutions comply with applicable codes, ADA requirements, and firm standards
  • Support client meetings and assist with presenting design solutions
  • Manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
  • Mentor and support junior designers as appropriate
  • Stay current with emerging trends, materials, and technologies in interior design

What Makes SMRT Unique:

We are architects, engineers, planners, interior designers, and problem-solvers who thrive on complexity. Our projects challenge us to think critically, collaborate deeply, and deliver thoughtful design solutions. Founded in 1884, SMRT brings a long legacy of innovation to today’s technically demanding and high-performance environments.

We believe great design comes from engaged people. That’s why we support flexible work arrangements, prioritize wellness, and invest in professional development. At SMRT, you’ll find a collaborative and inclusive environment where your work is valued and your growth matters.
