What is interior design support?

Interior Design Support roles assist interior designers with various tasks such as sourcing materials, preparing presentations, managing project documentation, and coordinating with vendors or contractors. These professionals help keep projects organized and on schedule by handling administrative duties, communicating with clients, and supporting the design team with research and planning. Their work is essential for ensuring the smooth execution of interior design projects.

How does interior design support typically collaborate with designers and clients during a project?

As an Interior Design Support professional, you will work closely with lead designers by preparing presentations, sourcing materials, and managing project documentation. Collaboration is key—expect to attend client meetings, assist in capturing client preferences, and help translate ideas into actionable design elements. Your role often involves communicating with vendors, tracking orders, and ensuring that timelines are met, all while supporting the design team to deliver cohesive and successful projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as interior design support, and why are they important?

Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite is essential, as well as knowledge of materials and sourcing platforms. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you manage multiple projects and collaborate with designers, clients, and vendors. These skills are crucial for ensuring accurate project execution, timely delivery, and client satisfaction in a fast-paced design environment.
