Job Summary: Project Interior Designer - Healthcare


This is a hybrid position with three days in person and up to two days of remote work, subject to project and team needs. The position is based in NK Architects' New York City office in the Woolworth Building at 233 Broadway, Ste 2100, New York, NY 10279.


NK Architects is seeking a talented and experienced Interior Designer to join our integrated design team. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative, technically proficient professional with 7+ years of experience who is passionate about designing complex institutional environments, with a primary focus on healthcare.

The ideal candidate is a thoughtful designer with strong technical skills who can independently lead the interior design scope for projects while collaborating closely with project managers, architects, planners, and consultants across our New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania offices. The candidate should possess a degree in Interior Design from a CIDA-accredited program and be committed to design excellence, client service, and collaborative problem solving.


Candidate Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform assignments for moderate-scale projects
  • Lead the interior design scope for healthcare and institutional projects from programming through construction administration.
  • Conduct programming, user interviews, and space planning for clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments.
  • Develop interior design concepts that respond to clinical workflows, operational requirements, and the patient and staff experience.
  • Independently develop and maintain Revit models for interior design, including plans, elevations, interior details, finish plans, reflected ceiling plans, and schedules.
  • Produce coordinated construction documents that accurately communicate design intent and support project delivery through all phases of design.
  • Create high-quality 3D renderings and visualizations using Enscape or similar rendering software to communicate design concepts to clients and project teams.
  • Prepare compelling presentation materials, including concept boards, finish palettes, furniture presentations, diagrams, and client-facing graphics using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Select and specify interior finishes, furnishings, lighting, and accessories appropriate for healthcare environments.
  • Coordinate closely with architects, healthcare planners, engineers, consultants, vendors, and contractors to ensure an integrated design solution.
  • Participate in client meetings, user group sessions, design presentations, and construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, site visits, and punch lists.
  • Mentor junior designers and provide guidance on design development, documentation, and production standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce presentation-quality graphics while maintaining technical accuracy in construction documentation.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture from a CIDA accredited program
    NCIDQ certification preferred but not required.
