Job description

MUST BE BASED IN AND HAVE US EXPERIENCE.

The VP of Interior Design leads the strategic, creative, and operational direction of the firm’s interior design practice across multiple markets, in multiple offices located in South Florida and the Northeast in the club and hospitality industry. This role partners closely with executive leadership, architecture and engineering teams, and project leadership to support organizational alignment, operational excellence, and long-term growth initiatives. Ideally based in Pawtucket, RI (or commutable distance from major city), Naples or North Palm Beach, FL, in this order.

The ideal candidate brings deep interior design expertise, strong operational leadership capabilities, business acumen, and experience leading high-performing teams within a complex and evolving design and business environment. This individual will play a key role in supporting scalability, collaboration, and the continued growth of the interior design team in multiple offices.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for unification of the operational, creative, and organizational direction of the interiors practice in multiple offices.
  • Partner with executive leadership, architecture teams, and project leadership to support organizational alignment and growth initiatives.
  • Drive consistency in design presentation and submittals, workflow processes, and project execution.
  • Serve as a senior client-facing leader at project interviews and presentations on key relationships and strategic projects.
  • Lead operational improvements to support scalability, collaboration, and long-term growth.
  • Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, and team development efforts.
  • Mentor and develop emerging leaders and design talent.
  • Contribute to the long-term vision and future structure of the interior design department.
  • Work with the production team to create, organize, edit, awards submittals and attend the awards ceremonies.
  • Represent the firm along with members of the Interior Design team at Conferences, trade shows, outings, functions, events, etc.
  • Provide oversight for annual budgeting, procurement strategy, proposal development, operational processes, and profitability initiatives to support business performance.
  • Support additional strategic initiatives and leadership priorities as needed to support the overall success of the team.

Required Skills and Abilities:

· Advanced interior design and space planning expertise in the club amenities, and hospitality projects.

· Strong leadership, operational, and project management capabilities.

· Business acumen, including budgeting, utilization, and project profitability.

· Experience with business development and growing client relationships.

· Excellent communication, coordination, and team leadership skills.

· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

· High attention to detail and commitment to quality, efficiency, and excellence.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry-standard design software Revit, CAD, Sketch Up, Adobe Suite, Photoshop, etc.

· Knowledge of building codes, accessibility standards, and construction practices.

· Knowledge of and ability to detail and coordinate all aspects of interior architecture including lighting, millwork, acoustical treatments, finishes in ceilings, walls and floors.

Education & Experience:

· Master's degree in interior design or equal professional experience.

· 15+ years of professional interior design experience.

· NCIDQ certification is strongly preferred.

· Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing teams, operations, and organizational initiatives within a design-focused environment.

· Architectural and planning industry experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and work on a computer.
  • Ability to review drawings, materials, and project documentation.
  • Ability to travel between offices, project sites, and business meetings (50%).
  • Ability to navigate construction sites as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times, as needed.
