About the Role
HD Supply is seeking a Graduate Intern, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science to support strategic initiatives that leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to drive business performance and innovation across the enterprise.
As one of the largest industrial distributors in North America, HD Supply relies on data-driven decision-making to optimize customer experiences, supply chain operations, inventory management, pricing, forecasting, and enterprise processes. This internship provides an opportunity for graduate students to apply advanced analytical and technical skills to real-world business challenges while working alongside experienced data scientists, AI practitioners, engineers, and business leaders.
The Graduate AI & Data Science Intern will contribute to projects involving predictive analytics, machine learning models, generative AI, intelligent automation, large language models (LLMs), agentic AI, and decision-support solutions. Interns will gain exposure to enterprise-scale datasets, cloud-based analytical environments, and the practical application of AI technologies within a large, complex organization.
This internship is designed for graduate-level talent seeking hands-on experience translating advanced analytics and AI concepts into measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, opportunities, and business insights.
  • Support the development, testing, and refinement of machine learning and AI models.
  • Assist in data preparation, feature engineering, model evaluation, and performance monitoring.
  • Develop visualizations, dashboards, reports, and presentations to communicate findings.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand challenges and translate them into analytical solutions.
  • Contribute to Generative AI and Agentic AI initiatives focused on automation and productivity.

Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Data Science, Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or May 2028.
  • Demonstrated academic experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, statistical modeling, or advanced data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, or other analytical programming languages.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous full-time professional work experience, internship experience, or relevant industry experience in analytics, data science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or a related field.
  • Experience developing machine learning models or AI solutions through academic research, professional work, internships, or personal projects.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), generative AI frameworks, or agentic AI applications.

  • Nature of work requires general supervision; exercises judgment. May be paired with a mentor. Work typically involves regular process checks or review of output by a coworker and/or supervisor.
  • May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support personnel.

Work Environment
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally there may be a requirement to stoop or lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience
  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Certification may be required in some areas. Generally 0-2 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 0-1 year of experience in a related field.
