Job description

POSITION SUMMARY 
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) work as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist. PTA’s implement selected components of patient/client interventions (treatment), obtain data related to the interventions provided and make modifications in selected interventions either to progress the patient/client as directed by the Physical Therapist or to ensure patient/client safety and comfort.
PTA’s assist the Physical Therapist in the treatment of individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Satisfactory verbal, reading and writing skills to effectively and promptly communicate in English.
  • Sufficient eyesight to read paper or computer-generated medical records; read instrument panels; apply therapeutic modalities such as ice, heat and electrical stimulation; monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatment; adjust assistive devices and make visual observations regarding posture and functional abilities such as bed mobility transfers and ambulation. 
  • Sufficient hearing to communicate with patients and other members of the health care team, monitor patients by hearing instrument signals and alarms. 
  • Sufficient smell to assess patient status and maintain a safe practice environment.
  • Sufficient fine touch discrimination to palpate pathologic changes in soft tissue. 
  • Sufficient fine and gross motor coordination to manipulate/operate equipment controls and to perform manual treatment/assessment techniques including, but not limited to, massage, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, stretching, neuromuscular re-education, goniometry and manual muscle testing. 
  • Satisfactory physical strength to transport, move or lift patients requiring all levels of assistance 
  • and to perform prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, crawling, reaching, 
  • pushing and pulling
  • Satisfactory intellectual, emotional and interpersonal skills to ensure patient safety, to exercise 
  • independent judgment and discretion in the performance of assigned responsibilities and to interact 
  • with patients, families and other health care workers 
  • Documents patient progress and status at discharge in the medical record according to departmental 
  • policies. 

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
Leads by example and exhibits solid leadership and teamwork while promoting the core philosophy of FYZICAL. 

EXPECTED WORK HOURS 

  • Estimated 40 hours per week during normal business hours. 
  • Monday through Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm
  • Overtime eligible and/or Saturday hours available with pre-approval by the Clinic Director.

OTHER COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Other Compensation: This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives and commissions related to the sale of membership packages and specific service goals.
  • Vacation (Paid Time Off): As a Full-Time Licensed Employee, you will accrue vacation time based on your years of service:

    • Less than 5 years: Accrue 1.90 hours per 40 hours worked (approximately 99 hours annually).

    • 5 or more years: Accrue 2.67 hours per 40 hours worked (approximately 139 hours annually).

  • Oregon Sick Leave (OSL): All employees are eligible to accrue and use sick leave for qualifying medical or safety reasons in accordance with state law.
  • Health & Wellness: Regular Full-Time employees are eligible to participate in group medical, dental, and vision insurance plans starting the first of the month following 60 days of employment.
  • Retirement: Employees are eligible to participate in the company 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid Leave Oregon (PLO): Access to the state-mandated wage-replacement program for up to 12–14 weeks of paid family, medical, or safe leave for eligible employees.
