Job description

Perform a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to ensure LAN performance meets company and user requirements. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, other duties may be assigned. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Administer and maintain all system applications, services and equipment including COTS, GOTS and specialized applications. Install, configure, and maintain all workstations, laptops and file servers at all locations.

Maintain networks, network cabling, devices, systems upgrades and configures modems, disk drives, printers, related equipment and software licenses. Plan and implement system security, including firewalls, encryption technology, key management requirements, digital signatures and EFS including file and directory permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users. Establish and maintain robust maintenance program following company and industry standards for best practices.

Ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability. Data backup procedures including sync between locations, daily and incremental backup and disaster recovery. Evaluate and recommend purchases of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment and software to meet ongoing requirements Proactively manage communication and network elements and systems.

Monitor and manage system performance and maintain appropriate level of system risk. Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability. Develop and conduct various training and instruction for system users on operating systems, relational databases, and other applications.

Assist personnel in maximizing use of all IT systems and applications. Provide on-the-job training and computer orientation to new employees. Develop and maintain robust documentation for all system and network software and hardware licenses, keys and procedures.

Investigate user problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and implement solutions. Responsibilities may require evening, weekend and on-call work in response to needs of the systems being supported. Must be able to travel when necessary to accommodate customer and program requirements.

Provide co-workers, supervisors and managers input on safety concerns. Be responsible in all aspects of duties for identifying and managing risk.
