Description

This position is for a Principle Engineer / Networking System Architect. As system architect, one will define the architecture of network products and systems, lead new technology research, study market trend, customers interface and lead Celestica's design team in the networking product space. Although the position is primarily a hardware based, the candidate must interface with software/firmware, mechanical, thermal, layout, SI, and test teams as part of system architecture. Candidate must have strong knowledge in network product design, from a variety of market segments including enterprise access, data center infrastructure, and Telco data communications. Experienced in the implementation considerations and trade-offs of cost effective lower end systems up to complex modular high performance network chassis systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Define complex networking platform solutions and lead a multi-disciplined team to bring to implementation.

  • Extensive and focused engagement through EVT, phasing out thereafter. Ensure overall design quality metrics are met.

  • Manage a small supporting team, drive goals and objectives of that team within broader collaborative environment between Technology, Development, and Customer teams.

  • Develop and maintain close technical relationships with suppliers/partners on product roadmaps and technologies.

  • Lead the RFQ technical response.

  • Deliverables include System Requirements Documents (SRD), requirement compliance assessments, and Technical proposals.

  • Act as a primary technical interface between Celestica and our customers, particularly in technical escalation.

  • Provide technical support to business development teams to assist in the winning of new business.

  • Participate in the selection and hiring of design team resources as required.

  • Identify and Champion process improvement efforts as needed.

  • Participate in standards committees and industry groups as assigned.

  • Prepare and present technical presentations to customers, industry groups, tradeshows, etc.

  • Maintain current on industry trends and future technology and market opportunities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Experience with relevant leading technologies in network products including:

  • CPU devices including Intel & AMD X86 embeded processors and ARM embeded processors

  • NPU devices including all Broadcom families (Trident, Tomahawk, Jericho, Ramon), as well as alternative device families such as Nvidia, Cisco and Marvell desired

  • High speed design including PCB materials, Serdes technology (224/448G), connector, cable, and parasitic challenges in design

  • Network performance characteristics and related device optimization features

  • Power devices including multi-stage and near load delivery

  • Advanced assembly techniques / challenges affecting design

  • Optics devices and technology - trade-offs and trends

  • Mechanical design challenges/flexibility as it impacts architecture

  • Minimum of 15 years network hardware design experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of network experience at the system level.

  • BS in Electrical Engineering required; MSEE preferred.

  • Successful experience architecting and delivering network products to market.

  • Excellent Customer presentation skills. Interface and interact with large OEM and hyperscale customers on ongoing product related issues and new product design concepts.

  • A broad knowledge of current digital and analogue components.

  • Successful New Product Introduction (NPI) launch.

Desired Skills

  • Experience working with Asian based design teams is desired.

  • 5 years experience as a direct line functional manager is desired.

  • Prior participation in industry groups and associations is desired.

  • System level integration, interoperability and test experience is desired.

  • System level manufacturing test experience is desired.

Personal Attributes

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual capable of working with a minimum of supervision in a dynamic team environment. Good interpersonal skills: be able to communicate effectively with members of other teams, departments and clients; as a high degree of liaison is needed.

Travel

  • International travel required, approximately 4-6 trips per year.

  • Domestic travel to support customer and internal meetings as required.

Salary

$171,000 - $268,000
