What is an integrative psychiatrist?

An Integrative Psychiatrist combines traditional psychiatric practices with holistic and alternative approaches to mental health care. They may incorporate nutrition, lifestyle changes, mindfulness, and complementary therapies alongside medication and psychotherapy. Their goal is to address the root causes of mental health issues by considering the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. This approach can be beneficial for individuals seeking a broader range of treatment options beyond conventional psychiatry.

What does an integrative psychiatrist do?

A typical day for an Integrative Psychiatrist involves meeting with patients for thorough assessments, developing personalized treatment plans that may combine medication with therapies like nutrition counseling, mindfulness, and psychotherapy. You can expect to collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, such as psychologists, nutritionists, and primary care providers, to ensure holistic patient care. Documentation, follow-up appointments, and ongoing education about new integrative practices are also regular parts of the job. Depending on the setting, the pace may range from steady in private practices to more variable in clinics or hospitals.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an integrative psychiatrist?

To excel as an Integrative Psychiatrist, you need a medical degree, board certification in psychiatry, and specialized knowledge of both conventional psychiatric treatments and complementary approaches like nutrition, mindfulness, and lifestyle medicine. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), psychopharmacology tools, and certification in integrative medicine (such as through the ABIHM) are common requirements. Strong interpersonal communication, cultural competence, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams distinguish standout practitioners in this field. These competencies enable comprehensive, patient-centered care that addresses both mental and physical health for optimal outcomes.

Are you ready to take your psychiatry career to new heights? At Deep Centered Mental Health, we are growing our outpatient psychiatry practice, and seeking psychiatrists who want to practice thoughtful, integrative psychiatry in a highly supportive, collaborative environment.

Location: Austin, Dallas, or Houston (this is an in-clinic or hybrid opportunity)

Deep Centered Mental Health is a clinician-led outpatient psychiatry and psychotherapy practice built to support thoughtful, high-quality care. Our model is intentionally designed to reduce administrative burden, allow for longer patient visits, and foster true collaboration across disciplines.

Psychiatrists in our group benefit from seamless access to a large, in-house therapy network and the ability to incorporate innovative treatments such as TMS and esketamine into their practice. We are aligned with the largest and only American Psychological Association-accredited private therapy practice in Texas, with over 220 in house therapists on our team, creating a uniquely collaborative and well-supported clinical environment.

Position Highlights

Access to TMS and esketamine for treatment-resistant conditions

In-house network of 200+ therapists for easy referrals and coordinated care

Ability to treat adults and/or children & adolescents

Longer appointment times to support depth of care and clinical quality

Designed to prioritize quality over volume

Clinician-led organization focused on autonomy and outcomes

Uncapped earning potential: $280K–$370K+

401(k) with employer match

Malpractice insurance with tail coverage

Paid CME and ongoing professional development

Opportunities to supervise APPs with a generous stipend.

Collaborate Effectively: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage patient care and contribute to research that advances interventional treatment.

Supervision: Have the opportunity to supervise Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners.

Maintain Accurate Records: Ensure all patient information is meticulously documented to support ongoing care and regulatory compliance.
