Lead Horticulturalist
Job Description & Responsibilities:
Horticultural Function
  • Oversee Integrated Pest Management

  • Develop implement and manage integrated pest management programs
  • Develop chemical application schedule for outdoor production areas
  • Continual improvement of pest management best practices and techniques
  • Source equipment and vendors for pest management and prevention
  • Develop SOPs for all horticulture related activities at all locations

  • Develop plant science and growing parameters
  • Travel to all locations as needed to instill best growing practices.
  • Help troubleshoot and determine root cause for yield decreases across locations

Research and Development Function
  • Conduct new variety trials and selection
  • Manage data collection and organization
  • Conduct new growing system trials
  • Assist with design of new grow systems
  • Communicate with strategic partners to improve R+D process, variety selection, and growing parameters

  • Send out tissue samples for analysis
  • Develop and oversee nutrient management plan

  • Determine refill solutions to extend nutrient solution life

  • Oversee nutrient solution testing and equipment upkeep
  • Send out nutrient solution samples to labs for analysis

  • Trial new crop nutrient recipes

Supervisory Functions
  • Conduct worker protection safety standard training
  • Manage Nutrient management specialist position and conduct performance reviews
  • Step in Operations team management positions when necessary due to vacation, illness, or labor shortages

  • Oversee new horticultural process implementation
