Responsibilities

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Trucking Claims Specialist to join our P&C Casualty Claims team. This role reports to the Director of Claims and is responsible for handling commercial auto liability and physical damage claims involving trucking risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve commercial auto liability and physical damage claims related to trucking operations
  • Review policy language to determine coverage applicability and consult with coverage counsel when needed
  • Manage a caseload of moderate to high complexity claims, including higher exposure files
  • Communicate with insureds, claimants, attorneys, repair facilities, and law enforcement to gather information
  • Coordinate with defense counsel and vendors on litigated claims and recovery efforts
  • Maintain accurate claim handling in accordance with internal guidelines and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in file reviews, team meetings, and training sessions
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience handling trucking claims
  • Experience with bodily injury claims and cargo claims in a trucking environment
  • Knowledge of trucking operations, FMCSA/DOT regulations, and multi-state claims handling
  • Ability to analyze claims, negotiate settlements, and manage multiple open files
  • Ability to handle sensitive or complex claims situations
  • Juris Doctor (JD) preferred, or bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in insurance, risk management, or related field
  • Licensing Requirement: Candidates must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses. The company will support the licensing process, including training and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements.
