Job description

Dignity Housing is a non-profit organization established by former homeless individuals. mission is to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty that confronts low-income families and individuals in Philadelphia. We work to fulfill our mission through the provision of transitional and long-term housing in combination with supportive services that create opportunities and promote self-sufficiency.

JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE SUPPORT TECH/HANDYMAN

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide excellent customer service to tenants, vendors, and visitors
  • Installation of tile and laminate flooring
  • Basic cabinetry skills needed to install and/or repair kitchen bathroom cabinets
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of facilities and grounds
  • Assist maintenance mechanic to turnover empty units, including installation of sheet rock, taping, sanding, painting, fixing doors, windows, and light fixture
  • Respond to maintenance requests and repairs by tenants
  • Address maintenance work order(s) in Buildium software to include photos of finished work
  • Keep the grounds clean and free of debris and trash
  • Report all issues or concerns to the Property Manager and/or Program Manager
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Program Manager or designee

NECESSARY SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and execute tasks
  • Familiar with city and federal safety inspections
  • Proficient in using computer and data software programs
  • Must be culturally competent and sensitive towards diverse and ethnic groups

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High school diploma, GED, or Technical school graduate required

  • Completion of an approved / accredited technical training in the various trades (plumbing, electric, carpentry and air conditioning, etc.) (Preferred)
  • Apartment maintenance experience a plus
  • Valid driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and required use of personal vehicle available to travel to properties
  • Lift minimum of 50 lbs., climb ladders, and be able to stand for an 8-hour shift
  • Must be available evenings, weekends, holidays for on-call emergencies
  • 1-2 years’ experience providing quality and efficient maintenance services for multiunit properties
