The Sr Data Visualization Developer leads initiatives to design, develop, and maintain intuitive business intelligence dashboards and self-service analytics tools that enable business partners to access timely, actionable insights. This role focuses on delivering high-quality Power BI solutions by translating business and analytical requirements into effective visualizations. The developer works closely with business stakeholders, analytics teams, and data engineering partners to ensure BI solutions are accurate, performant, and scalable, while continuously evolving dashboards to meet changing needs. Other dashboarding solutions may be utilized in the future.
What you will do:
  • Design and develop intuitive business intelligence dashboards and self-service analytics tools using Power BI and other visualization platforms to enable business partners to access actionable insights, trends and performance metrics.
  • Lead and partner closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting and analytical needs, translating requirements into clear, easy-to-navigate data visualizations that effectively communicate insight and enable self-service adoption.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to source, model, and optimize datasets, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and strong performance of BI solutions.
  • Write, test, and optimize SQL queries to support reporting, analytics, and data validation across enterprise data sources.
  • Provide recommendations and continuously enhance and evolve dashboards by incorporating user feedback, emerging Power BI capabilities, and additional visualization approaches over time.
  • Apply data visualization best practices, including KPI design, layout, filtering, and usability standards, across all reporting solutions.
  • Support BI lifecycle management, including development, testing, validation, and promotion of reports and semantic models across environments
  • Document dashboard logic, data definitions, and assumptions to promote transparency and reusability. Align to analytics governance standards and certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience developing dashboards and reports in Power BI.
  • Strong SQL skills, including experience writing complex queries, joins, and aggregations.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization principles and how to present insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong experience with DAX, including calculated measures, time intelligence, context manipulation, and performance optimization.
  • Experience working with relational databases and/or enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to build code, generate insights and perform quality control
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with business users and cross-functional technical teams and lead design and build initiatives.
  • Experience developing Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models for business and financial users.
  • Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and synthesize complex data sets.
  • Proficiency with Snowflake, including Snowsight, SQL-based analytics, and data exploration.
  • Ability to translate technical results into actionable insights for business and finance stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Location:
BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:
  • In-office: onsite 5 days per week
  • Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
  • Remote: onsite 0-1 days per week. Permitted to reside in the following states, pending approval from the Human Resources Department: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia
