Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a caseload of approximately 250-400 active collection matters from intake through resolution and file closure.

  • Collaborate closely with paralegals, administrative staff, and senior attorneys on collection and community association matters.

  • Review and analyze client documents and prepare legal opinions and recommendations.

  • Handle court appearances in multiple jurisdictions and represent clients in collection-related proceedings.

  • Manage covenant enforcement and abatement matters on behalf of community association clients.

  • Communicate regularly with clients, property managers, and management companies regarding case status and strategy.

  • Prepare and deliver routine case status reports.

  • Accurately track billable time and manage billing requirements, including fixed-fee and task-based billing.

  • Attend community association meetings, board meetings, and elections as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws governing debt collection and community associations.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • Active license to practice law in Maryland.

  • 2-4 years of experience handling collections matters.

  • Experience with debt collection litigation, post-judgment enforcement, and district court proceedings.

  • Working knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and related compliance requirements.

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Strong organizational and case management skills.

  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience representing community associations, condominium associations, or homeowners' associations.

  • Legal project management experience.

  • Experience supervising or coordinating with paralegals and support staff.

  • Prior experience handling creditor rights or collections matters for financial institutions, lenders, or similar clients.
