What is insurance business intelligence?

Insurance Business Intelligence (BI) refers to the use of technology, data analysis, and reporting tools to help insurance companies make informed business decisions. BI professionals in the insurance sector gather and analyze large volumes of data related to policies, claims, customer behavior, and market trends. Their insights help organizations optimize processes, identify risks, improve customer service, and drive profitability. By leveraging BI, insurance firms can gain a competitive edge and adapt quickly to changing market conditions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an insurance business intelligence professional?

To thrive as an Insurance Business Intelligence professional, you need strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and a background in statistics or data analysis, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, SQL databases, and knowledge of insurance-specific software or certifications like CPCU are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills help you translate complex data into actionable insights for stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for driving data-driven decision-making and optimizing business performance in the competitive insurance sector.

How does an insurance business intelligence professional typically collaborate with underwriters, claims analysts, and other departments within an insurance company?

Insurance Business Intelligence professionals regularly work cross-functionally with teams such as underwriting, claims, and actuarial departments. They gather requirements, analyze data trends, and present actionable insights that support risk assessment, pricing strategies, and claims optimization. Effective communication is key, as BI professionals must translate complex data findings into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders. This collaboration helps ensure that data-driven decisions are integrated into core business processes, driving both operational efficiency and improved customer outcomes.

Job description

Description:

Job Title: Senior Business Intelligence Analyst

Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 per year DOE

Full-time, Exempt Position

Full-time, 100% On-site — Miami, FL

Company Overview: AardvarkInsure.com Corporation aka Aardy.com, is one of the leading Insure Tech Companies in the USA. Our entire world is about helping our customers choose great travel insurance for their next trip. We excel at this. Indeed, we have the highest Trustpilot score of any Travel Insurance company in the United States. In addition, we are certified as a Great Place to Work. As we add to our team it is essential that we maintain our incredibly high customer service skills. Aardy is on a high growth trajectory and wants to ensure we continue to do so within Aardy performance and quality standards.

Position Overview: Aardy is seeking an experienced Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to build and maintain the systems that will allow us to drive true business results from data. This senior position will work with executive leadership to harness the power of our raw data and transform it into usable data systems, reports, and insights. The ideal candidate is able to build a data program from almost the ground up and deliver insights that turn into revenue drivers.

This role will work closely with our data engineer to create pipelines to collect, clean, and transform data, then visualize this data in executive and marketing dashboards. The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will report directly to the CEO and support all C-level members to deliver insights that shape strategy and accelerate growth.

This is not a supporting role. You will operate independently, anticipate where the business is heading, and ensure leadership always has the numbers they need — before they have to ask. If you thrive in fast-moving environments, love translating complexity into clarity, and want your work to directly shape company strategy, this role is for you.

This is a full-time, 100% on-site position based in Miami, FL. This position reports directly to the CEO.

What you will do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and maintain the executive reporting suite — dashboards, KPI trackers, and ad hoc analyses for the CEO and full C-suite, as well as marketing dashboards for the broader team.
  • Develop the reporting framework for the next phases of growth beyond first touch and last touch attribution — understanding how email, paid, and other touch points contribute to the customer journey, and identifying the main drivers and detractors of growth.
  • Proactively surface insights that help leadership anticipate where the business is going — not just report on where it has been. Deliver insights that turn into revenue drivers.
  • Enhance existing dashboards primarily in Looker, and leverage other tools including AI interfaces, to complete executive reporting and marketing dashboards.
  • Connect systems to generate tables in BigQuery and other tools that serve as master data sources powering visualization tools like Looker.
  • Write SQL from scratch to build, maintain, and troubleshoot datasets in BigQuery. Transform raw data into usable tables that drive powerful insights.
  • Work with FiveTran and Segment — Aardy’s current tools for drawing data into BigQuery — to support data pipelines in collaboration with the data engineer.
  • Partner with the data engineering team to design tables, build pipelines, and establish data practices that will scale, minimize errors, and allow confidence in reporting.
  • Present findings directly to the CEO and C-level team; own the narrative from data pull to executive briefing.
  • Work across departments as a senior resource to solve problems, answer business questions, support maintenance of campaigns, and enable deep segmentation and analysis.
  • Experience working with leadership and marketing teams to deliver insightful reporting that drives business decisions and results beyond current reporting.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical senior leaders.
  • Maintain the data dictionary, document reporting logic, and keep assets organized and reproducible.
  • Balance competing data requests from multiple C-suite members and communicate priorities clearly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a data analyst or business analyst role.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience working directly with or supporting C-level teams.
  • Must be proficient writing complex SQL from scratch (CTEs, window functions, joins, aggregations).
  • Must have hands-on experience with BigQuery as a data warehouse, including best practices in data analysis and data engineering.
  • Must have experience building production dashboards and reports in Looker, Google Data Studio, or a comparable BI platform.
  • Familiarity with FiveTran and Segment for data ingestion and pipeline management.
  • Experience collaborating with a data team to design, build, and maintain a governed, source-of-truth data foundation.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand executive and marketing team needs and solve for them with data.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills — able to convey technical findings to non-technical leaders clearly and confidently.
  • Experience working with Google Sheets and Excel for ad hoc executive deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in high-growth or operationally complex businesses.
  • Experience as a solo data owner or primary BI lead for an executive or C-suite team, with a track record as the “owner” of all things data.
  • Experience with tools such as MixPanel, Segment, Salesforce, and visualization platforms including Looker and PowerBI.
  • Experience building underlying data systems and processes that drive first touch and last touch attribution models, and eventually a multi-touch attribution model.
  • Familiarity with AI tools for reporting automation and visualization.
  • Experience connecting multiple data sources and maintaining data pipeline integrity.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow with the business.
  • Master’s degree in data science, analytics, or a comparable field preferred.

  • Equipment: PC + monitor, standard peripherals.
  • Retirement Plan: 401k safe harbor plan with up to a 6% company match.
