Job description

Concrete QC Manager – Lead Technical Excellence and DOT Compliance

Job Overview:

  • Company: Florence Cement Company.
  • Salary/Pay Rate: $70,000 – $85,000 annually plus Performance Bonus.
  • Location: Metropolitan Detroit Area (Onsite).
  • Job/Employment Type: Full-Time.
  • Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: Certified Level I Concrete Field Testing Technician (ACI or equivalent); Valid Driver’s License.
The Opportunity

You will serve as the primary authority on concrete integrity, leading all quality control operations for high-profile infrastructure projects across Michigan. This leadership role allows you to influence operational excellence within a respected, second-generation family-owned company while ensuring our roadway builds meet the rigorous standards of MDOT and local municipalities.

How You Will Make an Impact
  • Direct all concrete quality control operations across multiple active sites to ensure strict adherence to MDOT and project-specific requirements.
  • Oversee comprehensive field testing, including slump, air content, and ride quality, to guarantee performance standards are met or exceeded.
  • Monitor batch plant operations and implement stockpile management strategies to maintain material consistency and optimize project yields.
  • Validate all technical testing data for accuracy and compliance before submission to regulatory agencies and project engineers.
  • Mentor and train field technicians, fostering a culture of accountability and precision throughout the testing process.
  • Resolve complex quality issues proactively by partnering with project managers, superintendents, and agency inspectors.
  • Manage regulatory documentation and reporting to ensure all projects remain in full contractual and legal compliance.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Certified Level I Concrete Field Testing Technician (ACI or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience managing quality processes for DOT or government-funded infrastructure projects (MDOT preferred).
  • Proven leadership experience managing field teams and coordinating quality procedures in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep technical understanding of concrete materials, batch plant operations, and paving procedures.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Level II Concrete Technician certification.
  • Experience in calculating project yields and analyzing plant performance to drive cost control.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a primary liaison between construction crews and government agency inspectors.
